What running temperature

It's from a range rover classic. 1983. I can't check the rad yet coz I've drained the system but that is a good shout. Going to flush it now with a hose pipe. Do I take the top hose off and flush it through the hose back into the engine or into the top of the rad?

Take the bottom hose off too, dont flush any crap into the engine, plus it will give you an idea of what's going in V what's coming out.

Take both hoses off, stick the hose, wrapped in tape, into the bottom of the radiator. You may need to run it for several hours if there is a lot of crud in the rad.
 
So here are some photos as requested. I have some sort of after market heating system in the cab. After matket electric cooling fans. Oerated from cailary sensor connected to additional temp guage in cab. Plus piccie of original radiator from original 2.25, 4 cylinder setup.

So today, 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Fitted new thermostat and housing gasket. Nipped it up. Reconnected top and bottom hoses with new jubilee clips where necessary. Filled up rad. Let it settle filled up again etc. Started her up. No leaks from the work I had done, but now water leaking somewhere between back of engine and bulkhead!! I'm assuming it's heater matrix related? Can't quite see where it's coming from. I'm hoping there's an inspection/access panel from inside the cab on the bulkhead somewhere! This is a new leak and wasn't doing it b4!!
 
Those twin fans if both working properly should be enough to cool a V8 so my next step would be to check the rad as others have suggested.
 
It's the original rad from the 4 cylinder set up. Do you think if it's a working rad that it's OK to use with a v8 or should it be one from the early range rover?
 
Does anyone know if you can access the rear of a v8 through the cab side of the bulkhead. Need to get to the matrix coolant pipe connections. Not sure if I can get down the back of the engine.

I don't know any access via the bulkhead.
I think you have to remove the plenum and intake manifold as the heater matrix pipes run beneath them and above the valley gasket.

When I converted my 2.5P to 3.5V8 I changed the rad for a V8 version without oil cooler but @NowayPedro I think has a Series so won't fit.

There must be thread on V8 cooling in a Series?
 
Cheers. Will take a good look. Thanks for all your help so far. Learning so much. Most of my hobby experience has been on air -cooled vehicles, so this is (almost) all new!!
 
Pics of engine pls. Cos we have no clue what engine you have?

I would be removing all the heater crap out first. Then just join the 2 hoses together for now.

No access through the back.

the only thing back there is a core plug, I think Or it may have a heated manifold:confused:

If the rad is not up to the job both fans would run all the time. But with some of the wiring in the pics it’s difficult to tell.

Ha ha Yes. That's a job for once it holds water! The joining of the weird cabin heater is a good idea. Off to the Isle of man now for the last weekend of the TT so I've got a rover sd1 v8 haynes manual with me. To read at night. Such a sado!

A 6 cylinder Series rad would fit, and they are a massive rad.

How easy it is to get hold of them it is now, I have no idea.
 
To me the rad doesn't look so good and going by the rust it's been running water only. Thermostat may have been removed in the mistaken idea it will solve a previous over heating problem.
Looks quite rusty on the outside, so who knows what it is like on the inside.
Also thinking that has boiled over quite a few times.
