Now for any woman to put up with anyone involved in Landys makes her a special woman. So when I met my mrs (found her in a bar :D) I took her home in a series one soft top in the middle of winter, I didn't expect to see her again. But despite the complaints at the lack of refinements, she married into a family where Land Rovers (and lorries) were dominant.

For the first ten years or so she was used to landy doors, wings, engine bits, axles etc lying about the house. It was about this time I had my series 3 (in bits), she was out for the day and I wanted to spray up some body panels. Too cold outside and the room with the most room was the bedroom. Very carefully I placed newspaper over the bed and floor ready to spray the panels, I thought I did well.

I ran the airline up the stairs, layed the wing sections, doors and assorted bodybits on the bed and on the floor and sprayed the lot. Nice job I thought. Didnt take long to dry so just a case of removing said panels and clearing up the newspaper.

Mrs came home, commented on all the nicely painted panels lined up in the hallway. Then went upstairs

What happened next was not suitable for a gentlemans ears, I never knew so many Land Rover parts began with 'F'. I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about, anyway that night the mrs slept downstairs.

It wasn't til I awoke in the morning that I noticed that everything had a bluey tinge to it, the dressing table, the carpet (apart from the defined shape of series 3 doors), the curtains were blue, the ceiling was blue, even the lampshade was blue, the wardrobe was blue including the clothes in it where the door was slightly open.

All that happened around 30 years ago and she still reminds me about it from time to time. Nowadays its strictly no Landy parts in the house. I did suggest making a double bed out of a S2 chassis a few years later, but I'd seen that look before so dropped the idea.

Anyone else suffered such injustices from the mrs?

Doris always complains about climbing up into mine. It's on coils and sits pretty high. Plus she's jealous of the sound system compared the set up in her rice burner.

I bought a landrover... that was the grief.

I Had an engine running in the bedroom once... does that count (sshhh she doesnt know!!!!)

I think I got the best deal. It was her Dad and Brother that got me into Landys so she was well used to them and I just joined in and helped out to the point where I'm building a 4.6 V8 90 challange motor with her Brother.

My Mrs hated my first Landy with a passion. She called it my mid life crisis come early (I'm no where near mid life!!) and thought it was a passing "fad". That was until it snowed and she wanted to go shopping! I got her to the shops and back when there were stranded cars all over the place. Went out, did a good deed and rescued a few cars. Once she saw how good it was first hand she soon came round to secretly liking it...

I proposed to my second half in the back of my series 3 whil stuck donw a green lane ended spending the night there with just the dog for warmth. Think this is when she come round to me driving old slow cold landies. She likes the disco know thow.

Heh, she knew what she was getting.

First time she came home she commented on the GS1000 engine in the bath .. only place that was waterproof to catch the oil. The underfloor heating didn't like it when I originally left it on the floor, it let out all it's magic smoke. Mind, the council, and other occupants of the flats didn't like it either! I didn't see a problem ... I turned the heating off before there were flames.

Then the kawasaki KMX 200 in the front room. I thought as we didn't have carpets, and the front door opened directly into the street that it'd do for a garage ...

The the Series 3 (finally on to Land rovers) which I wanted to get in the garage. I can't understand why she flipped when she saw the dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washer and dryer on the driveway. They were all plumbed in and worked Ok 'cos I needed the garage for three weeks.

Then the dishwasher that I used as a parts cleaner. The washer that I (I know, heresy) put my overalls in. Apparently the water pump wasn't happy with the washers and things in the pockets or the amount of grease on the thighs. The overalls came out fine, mind .. ;)

She wasn't right happy when, while she was asking me to take my motocross boots off after laning on the bike, I walked across the front room. They were biological stains at least, I think.

Still with me though ... 24 years married on Oct 1st this year .. coulda been out far sooner for murder .. ;)

my landy was a bike replacement, after i had an argument with car.

Shes not 100% with it but its improving, she would have preferred a 90, but 3 kids meant a 110SW.
she does have her eye on a 2a soft top for her first motor though  has to be shiny black though!! had thought when i get a bit further with the 110, Id buy a project. not sur ehow that would go down, even if it is for her!

My wife is used to it now days
When we started seeing each other I used to spend my weekends at my mums house because they had a big garage working on my cars and bikes
Then when I got my workshop I'd spend most evenings and weekends down there
But now we have a nice garage at home she's happy
And she was the one that wanted the discovery so she don't complain about that

My missus hates my discovery with a vengeance, its dirty, smelly, dented, scratched, noisy, has crunchy 2nd gear, handles badly, has no stereo.....brilliant...its my landrover:D

my landy deciding to plow in to a focus to be fare ther was a wide pavement he could of swerved onto, 6 hours before insurance ran out because of my disco's bad driving resulted in my insurance more than doubling my policy to 1800 quid ( which wife had spent an hour arguing to get it to 900) and it was my fault .yeah in his lane but surely a disco is big enough to avoid.:p

Wot a b*****d. Fancy not going over the curb to avoid someone going the wrong way in their lane!!!!:D

My first husband hated my first Defender, mainly because it was associated with the horses :D

But it also put oil all over his drive and garage (if it hadn't already leaked oil I would probably have made it :D)

Solved the problem easily, kept the Defender, dumped the husband :D

Luckily my wife grew up with Landies, her dad had owned a fair few over the years. She's now got her dad's '93 110, and did have a SIII 109 for a while, which we planned to do up.

The parts aren't an issue, but the problem I have is mine always break down, usually at night, in the cold, and in remote areas, usually with her in the passenger seat!
