what is wrong now

out on the plains today(will post piccys in abit)
1st bit of water sorry ice and i volunteered to test it fookinell it was about 9" thick and gave out in the end.ended up well stuck and snapped a half shaft..

but before we even got outin the morn me alternator belt snapped luckily me mate had a disco 200 tdi one which with a bit of cleverness with the adjustment bar we got it fitted.
thing is now the battery guage on the dash is reading well into the red,b4 it sat just over half.
my aux battery used to read 14.7v but is now reading 17.9v the main battery used to read 14.4v but is now reading 16.9v.
towards the end of the day there was astrange smell really bad in the cab(no not the mrs)like eggy fart smell and we had to open the windows.
could it be the batterys are being overcharged and being boiled?
alternator is only one week old.

so it looks like ive some more jobs to do

that smell does relate to batterys being overcharged i would say!
have you checked the levels of the battery since getting back?

defo over charging of the batts mate , check ya levels in the battarys ( must be over the plates ) and change your Reg in ya alternator ( £6 from Ebay ) .

yup - get em all checked at halfrauds or somewhere similar. anuvva noo alt required.

The eggy smell is Hydrogen sulphide from the sulphuric battery acid!

Check your levels quick before you fry the batteries

bloody things only one week old...is the regulator in the alternator or the little black box thing connected to the outside?

my eyes are still stinging 2 hrs later

Not sure whether it's built in or seperate mate.

Its the shaped box at the back - gone up a £ from his last listing ..

dead easy to change ( as long as u have a socket that fits ( had to grind down one of my spares .
