P38A What is this please

Please see the picture. Its a 2.5 DSE 1997, auto.
This was hanging off and I put it back in place. Quite oily so I'm guessing its some kind of breather at the top of the engine next to the oil filler cap.
Its not exactly secure so I'll keep an eye to see if it moves again.
I'm also guessing I will need to replace it.

catches the oil from the engine stops it going in the inlet manifold should be a little gorse in there

Looking again it appears there is a jubilee clip. Maybe it needs securing with a new one. A job for tomorrow.

Normally there is no clip, both ends are a push fit on mine.

+1^^,O ring on the stub that fits into the cam cover,the other pushes into a rubber grommet in the plastic intake.

That's the depression control valve.

Are they available new or used only?
My instinct is to start to improve by renewing older bits. It is 25 years old after all. Summer project.

They are available new but not cheap I believe.don't know if the discovery or Defender one will fit

According to Ebay they don't so I've messaged the seller to check as they may well fit or supply the correct one.

There's a small pipe that fits to the bottom of the valve,held on by the jubilee clip that shows in your photo.

It really should not need to be replaced unless it's been butchered at some point. It's only a plastic container with some gauze inside to trap particles.
