Hi all, what is the part (with the wires coming up to it) in the middle of the photo for? It looks like it has been partially disconnected on my vehicle. I have a 2000 TD5 defender.

Cheers

It controls the EGR valve. it looks in the photograph that yours has been removed and replaced with a straight through adapter. When doing this they will have disconnected the control unit. Should have two vacume pipes one connected to the EGR valve (opens and closes the valve for exhaust gasses to pass through) and one to the vacume pipe to the servo.

What Tim4x4 said, its a vac solenoid for the EGR system, the rubber vacuum pipe should have a rubber bung in them if EGR valve has been removed.
