What is the threaded area do I need to insert a bolt

Hi new here I have a Freelander 2 2014 I was just wondering why this threaded hole has no bolt and can you please tell me what it’s for regards Simon

thanks for replying do you think it is something to worry about also what could be mounted in that area cheers again
 
Looking at it again could it be a thread that comes all the way through and bolted from the other side

I think we are just guessing tbh, give it a few hours and one of the FL2 chaps will probably be able to tell you what it is. Can you tell us more about the vehicle Auto/Man Petrol/Dies Aircon ? Engine ?

It's not unusual to find the odd unused thread on a gearbox, especially a parts bin special like a Freelander, which is made of parts from various other Ford cars.
From the picture I can't tell were the exact location of this thread, but it does look like something made of steel was previously bolted on there, as there is rust staining which alloy wouldn't have.

Another issue is that you can see the underside of the power unit (engine/gearbox) in the first place, as there should be a structural under tray fitted preventing the underside of power unit being seen.
 
That'll be where the lower crux mount or it's return slider should be mounted.
It's not 'vital' but there could be complications if you are fully laden as the crux leveller can't reseat fully without the helper spring.

You should have a good look around, as it normally only falls off when the car is stationary as the spring is obviously relaxed without any centrifical force so the nut can loosen.
It is unusual though and well spotted.

Take it to a Land Rover main dealer and ask them to have a look, they should be able to source a spare and they are not that expensive, even with labour to refit.

Cheers for replying I removed the under tray to remove the oil filter I noticed this threaded hole and took a photo so in your opinion do you think it is nothing to worry about regards simon
 
So it is major I’ve been driving it since June this year 2.2 diesel manual 2014 is it ok to keep driving it regards Simon

I do the oil filter from above. It's much less hassle than getting a face full of crap from below.

If it's a manual, I'll take a look at mine at some point and confirm whether something should be bolted in there or not.

The only thing that springs to mind is the lower boost pipe bracket, which bolts to the box.

Is the picture looking towards the left or right of the vehicle?
