Hi everyone,
My name is ME Park from south Korea.
Please understand my poor English if you can't understand what I am saying.
I have Freelander 2004 2.5 liter V6 Auto transmission.
I am curious about the function of the switch installed on the accelerator pedal as below (attached?) picture.
Could anyone explain me about this switch?
Thank you for the replies in advance.

I’m not sure but I think it is for hill descent control (HDC). HDC only operates when the brake and throttle pedals are not pressed. It might also be used for cruise control, if fitted.

Thank you for the reply.
I recently got an HDC warning with the Auto gear change/shift problem.
I read the freelander user manual describing that appropriate gear change will be accomplished according to the vehicle road speed with the accelerator position (I guess it tells the TPS switch).
I found the pedal switch when investigating the cause of the problem and I was wondering what the purpose of this switch is.

Thanks a lot.

Thank you Eric,

Yes, I've read the thread and related information by googling before. My car trouble is exactly same with the trouble mentioned in that thread.
I've checked the resistance of gearbox soneloids twice at the connector near the Battery and ECU-EAT connector. Every resistance value is in normal range.

My freelanders' symptom is that:
1. Everthing looks fine when I start the engine.
2. With selecting the D range, car moves as normal in first gear.
3. Accelerating the car the RPM is reached maybe around 3,500 rpm and still the gear not changed
4. If I maintain the vehicle speed, HDC warning light is on first and gear is suddenly changed/jumped to more higer gear level (guess 3rd gear) immediately after the warning light comes on. In the mean time, F4 is flashing on LCD.
5. In this situation, acceleration is availabe and gear is changed to the next gear if I increase the speed. But, I felt that the last 5th gear is not engaged when I try to increase the speed more than 90 km/h.
6. However, the 5th gear is engaged if I move the gear selector to sports mode. (I can feel that the rpm is reduced when I move the selector to S/M with maintaining the accelerator pedal position)

It will be appreciated if anybody give me a fine solution.
Thank you in advance.

The automatic transmission, when 4 flashing in LCD indicates that is in emergency mode (4th gear fixed).

Maybe the problem is the CAN-BUS communication between ECU and Jatco Module inside the E-Box. Check the yellow twisted pair wire. If it is broken, there is no communication between the modules and the transmission has no engine information to manage the shifting.

Solenoid Failure in autobox causes the "4" flashing in LCD after a few seconds.

Check the barrel connectors if they are connected correctly.

Hippo video helps:

Thank you for the reply.
I will try to find/inspect the yellow twisted pair wire tonight.

Hope it was the cause of my problem. I don't want to waste my money to replace the gearbox.
