I'm toying with fitting electric cooling fan(s).

Simple enough, but there are a number of options, twin 12" or 13" or a single 16".

I was wonsdering if anybody knows what the maximum air flow of the standard viscous fan is - more out of curiosity than a real need to know on the basis that about 2500cfm appears to be considered adequate to keep a V8 cool.

i have no idea - but if yu work out the working area of the fan and assume it moves that amount of air back the thickness of the blades, then assuming no losses!!! that, multiplied by the number of blades, gives yu the volume moved per rev - then multiply that by the max revs to give max volume moved.

corse yu DO get losses and the viscous fan int locked solid and there are obstructions and resistances and fook nose wot else, but it would give yu a figure.

yu need the sointeest.

is overcooling possible ?

Anything is possible. I suppose depending on the relative air temperature and humidity it could be possible to over cool the system but you'd have to move an enormous amount of air and it would vary depending on how quickly the coolant is moving and the rate of heat transfer through the surface of the radiator - well, it's something like that.
