I went for a little drive.

1.Mopped up water ingress in drivers footwell
2. Wondered why one of the belts is making an intermittent squeak on tick over
3. Remembered that I need to find a permanent fix for the bonnet making contact with the wing and causing a really annoying rattle, also on tick over

Decided to never let it just tick over, thus obviating the need for a fix for 2 & 3

Fitted a parrot bluetooth hands free kit. Was a second hand one off ebay, and the previous owner had hacked around with the wiring loom, so wasnt as straightforward as planned. Still, got there in the end.

Also discovered how many sharp edges there are on the back of the dashboard when running cables!!

I've hosed the mud off the underside. Not that I've been offroad - this is just farm dirt and manure from driving on rural roads. I also have a bit of vibration when braking from motorway speeds. I think maybe I've got a disc running out of true. Not too severe at the moment, but might merit investigation before too long.

Refitted the spare to the outside of the back door as it was just taking up too much room fastened to the inside of the door, refitted another side facing rear seat just incase we get to go off roading over the festive season and replaced the faulty light / H/L switch :)

Philip's D2 alternator died yesterday, got a spare on the shelf so going to help him swap that this morning, plus I'm going to pull my plugs on the V8 and have a look at them they were new in 2015 when we went to Holland and France but really need checking. The are platinum tipped and are good for 80k miles, but the gaps tend to open up as the outer contact bends with heat.

Got Philip's alternator swapped, the one that came off was smaller than standard, but the stock used one worked first time.

Pulled my plugs on the V8, 3 had gaps that were double what they should have been, 5 were OK and didn't need adjusting.

Been out and about in it and visited a few shops including Halfords where 5w30 oil is on special offer. It was making a slightly farty noise so I had a look at the exhaust. All seemed well. Then I noticed that one of the bolts holding the EGR blanking plate on the manifold had lost its head, so the plate has come away from the manifold slightly. I wonder whether I'll be able to get the stump of it out? It's not excessively noisy so it can wait a few days.
