Has he got a rough idea of what it is?

The timing was way out, so he's done that with the guage. He said the misfire is gone and it no revs freely up to maximum, but it still smokes too much. He's pulling the injectors to test them. Can only be that as everything else is new, rings, bore honed, valve seals, bearings the lot. Fingers cross.

I woulda said possibly stale fuel but you would've used any old fuel up on the salisbury trip.

the original fuel was half a tank and that had been there for 6 weeks from when I filled up at Billing. I put some Wynns Injector Cleaner in it when it was rebuilt as it was smoky. Since then it's been to Salisbury and back, so the fuel is fresh.
This guy seems to really know his stuff, comes well recommended from Jai. I'll just leave him to it to fix it and await the bill. I've got another set of injectors that were refurb ones from Paddocks, they'd only done about 2000 miles on the old engine, I'll drop them into him too. Really can't think what else could be wrong. He's got all of the kit to bench test Injectors.
