Changed the oil and the filters this morning. As the sun is a little higher in the sky now we're in mid April I noticed that the Dinitrol on the chassis could do with touching up. There's flecks of rust showing through the black.

Yes well spotted! im bit of a brand whore at times.
 
Today, I have disconnected and diagnosed that the map sensor has had it. Now I just have to figure out the part number and find a replacement.

Its no suprise it's the day after cleaning it.

I've finally cured a long standing problem with kangarooing and cutting out on my 1981 series 3 2.25 petrol. I just spent about an hour writing up the exact symptoms and what cured it to help others.

Somehow I managed to delete it instead of posting it ffs! I can't be ars*d to rewrite but in a nutshell I ditched the inline fuel filter and trimmed and put a hose clip on the servo vacuum hose at the manifold end as it was split and bell mouthed. I'll rewrite the full version again but I'll use my laptop not my phone.

It's like a new engine now.
 
I've just been tinkering with a view to getting my windscreen washer to work. It was working previously but I tried to wash some of the bird manure and dead flies off this morning and nothing happened. It appears to be poor contacts in the switch. It's working again now, but I've ordered a new switch so that if it happens again I've got something to swap in.
 
Installed a new brake master cylinder, added a seal around the air duct and a used uncracked windscreen cowling.

Work on the S1 today
Changed points,condenser
Refitted the new coil in a new position,fitted longer lead.
Each time making sure it restarts.
On changing the points it failed to start…
Check voltage etc to points all good,made sure I had put all the connections on right.
checked 12 accross the points… nothing.
Open/closed these a few times till I saw a blue spark,may have been a film on it stopping first sparks till cleared off.
Motor started up straight away. Woop woop

now sorting the spares box out. So far found 6 new rotor arms.
Some of these items are for later series engines so best make a list & pop the shop.

Left the mrs sorting out the tool boxes.

test drive again later…
Only 5 weeks till it goes for a classic car tour
 
Fitted one of those egt gauges as I've been passing around with boost rings and pins etc.
Looked around the dash and thought, where can I put that?

then after about an hour trying to trace a fan belt squeak, turned out to be the exhaust:D
 
Popped down the local 4c4 shop & swapped the points.found I had purchased wrong type :oops:. Now have spare set again.
Replaced an earth cable & put battery on charge as it’s struggles to start(I do have a jump pack which I use first thing then it’s good after a long run)
Wil check battery voltage later
 
Gave it a wash, looked at the fluid levels under the bonnet and found them all within an acceptable range except the windscreen wash. So put a bit more in. Maybe I'll pop the tyre pressure gauge on the valves later. They all look about the right shape, but it might be useful to see the numbers.

Aside from planned maintenance like a reconditioned gearbox and new clutch in early 2021, I've had a run of 18 months without major breakdowns. There's been a MAF failure, a new headlight switch needed just before Christmas and I replaced a frayed seatbelt before its MOT, and that's pretty much it. I have a new washer and wiper switch but won't put that in until the existing ones goes wrong again.
