My old girl seems to be smoking a lot of oil. If I hold it on a bit of revs not under load it burns blue. And if I come of the throttle slightly it burns blue. And while cold. Is this piston rings?? Or valve guides maybe ?

Otherwise loving my new exhaust and cb radio :)

OK it got a lot worse this morning :( low oil pressure light comes on when at speed on the motorway now. And it burns blue when it's hot when coming off the throttle slightly. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

Today I have spent the day wrestling with the front suspension. New shocks and new steering knuckle ball joints was the plan, got shock and ball joints done on the drivers side, had a break for lunch, then things went downhill. Jacked the car up wheel off, caliper off, carrier? Nope not a chance, both bolts rounded (not by me!) so that was that scuppered. Managed to do the shock anyway but been defeated by the bolts.

Started stripping it down :eek::D

Is that the green one which was in one piece only a few hours ago? Yes it must be, I can see bits of green on the tabs on the crossmember. That was quick.

If it's not holding oil pressure at high revs, that suggests it's leaking oil from somewhere that's pressurised. As oil getting past valve stem seals and piston rings is just a 'passive' loss, it doesn't usually reduce oil pressure (unless you burn so much the pump isn't picking any up!). I'd be wondering if it was getting out of a bearing faster than it should - that sort of thing. Unfortunately it sounds to me like a job that will require some engine dismantling. Are you up for an engine overhaul?

Serviced it yesterday. Started it up after the oil change, and very quickly stopped it again as a puddle of oil formed on the drive. The rubber seal from the old filter was still in place which meant the new one wasn't sealing properly. Much cursing and clearing up later, did it properly!

Just pulled the dipstick out anf found it spitting oil. Guess thats a stuck or worn oil ring causing pressure.
Front inner crank seal is a little leaky? Perhaps that's got worse.

I presume this is an engine out job. In which case I will have to source another lump to stick in there because its my daily runner. Anyone got a disco 200tdi lump I can have for a bargin!? ;)

Thanks for your help

After a great weekend in Cumbria. Finally made it home with some chugging and black smoke. Gears were getting a little difficult to engage and as a result the gear lever snapped off just as I tried to reverse it onto the drive. 130 mile round trip plus about 30 for the off-roading. It was the last 6 foot that killed Buddy.
