a day late here, but Ive drilled out the spot welds on the rotten drivers side door pillar, and stuck a screwdriver through a rust bubble on the offside bulkhead top. I attacked it all with a flap wheel to investigate the spread. I was pleasantly surprised to see it didnt go terribly far.

Ill weld small patches in and smooth it over, replace the pillar and stuff it with cavity wax.

Or Ill set the #### on fire with welding sparks and my next post will be in the land rovers wanted section.

I've just spent 3 hours ripping out the heater box again. This time I've sealed every nook and cranny and every hole with aluminium duct tape then just for good measure I've sealed every external seam too. Just put it back together and it's not much warmer than it was. I think I have an air lock as I definitely lost maybe 100-200ml of coolant and it's barely taken any. I've just been out for a few miles and it's sat cooling down before I top it up again from the thermostat housing filler.

Cables are right but they are a little bendy at the ends now so might need changing.

Seen as though the audi had decided to stop playing (maff gone) I've been out n partially drained rear diff on landy cleaned up the leaky bit n metal welded it again until a new diff pan gets fitted Thursday, fingers crossed it works cos we only have one car between us otherwise! !

Removed the newly fitted lower steering column with UJ's as it was around a third of a turn of the steering wheel out. 120 degrees if you like. I thought I had indvertently put it on the splines on the **** but now I am not so sure.

All 3 splines; the upper steering column to to UJ, the sliding bit on the lower column and the lower column to steering box all have a slight flat where the pinch bolt slides through. So surely it's idiot proof ( you would think )

The only difference between my old column and my new one is the rubber dampener bit is riveted on and not bolted. But even if that was on wrong it could only be 90 degrees out.

I am a bit confused on this one. I don't see how it can be so different and I seem to have lost my old column for comparison

Got mine back from the garage Friday, drove it to London today and hall drive it back tomz. Then fitting new turrets and dampers

She was a little smokey when I first started her. Garage had moved her around on the starter motor because of no clutch

Fitted new bias plate and springs to disco 2 td5, cleaned all inside, washed outside, checked tyre pressures.

Defender 90, soaked up water in rear roof channel, eyed up for fitting new winch bumper, new headlights, new twin Ariel's and offered up some headlight gaurds that arrived from eBay today. Roll on tomorrow.

Re upholstered rear load area:
Tomorrow's job.... Refit seats and seat belts, this time with stainless bolts so they don't take 3 hours to remove...

Ha, had to leave my Land Rover at my bosses place as I have the van, I'm off to Paris this evening. Just got a call from the mother in-law who normally comes round for Sunday lunch. She is snowed in and can't get out. What a shame. Surprising the difference in the weather. Here at 550 mt high its brilliant sunshine. At 900 Mts she is snowed in.

been under the disco for about 3 hours and achieved nothing.

Tried to fit air con belt on - too short :(.
Checked rear transmission - all OK, but brake drum can turn through 90 degrees with the gearbox backlash with the box in first gear  :( - feck - is that likely to be output shaft/gear play?
Found clutch only worked on bottom half of pedal - bled system - seem better, but reckon I have a leak somewhere .
