The road outside my house has been looking pretty grim for a while now, and its not getting any better, that would be the missus' 300tdi auto causing that then;
One of several leaky culprits would be the auto box oil cooler pipes;
So we set about sorting them out. An early start saw the exhaust and cross member off & the gearbox supported on a jack.
An ideal opportunity to fit the auto box filter which I bought a while ago but never changed, what with the cross member obscuring a bolt. So after a light but warm shower of ATF, we get the auto box drained and the cover off. Some struggles with the rather odd fasteners holding the filter in place and the new filter is on.
Since the exhaust was off my mate Fabio took the opportunity to de-cat it and to replace the knackered flexible joint which was in the process of falling apart.
As I had already taken a refreshing Dextron shower I managed to smear muck on the camera lens ruining what was a excellent photo of Fabio's bespoke exhaust, as well as knacking up any further photos.
One of the connections to the oil cooler was particularly troublesome, utterly rusted, needing an hour plus of time, a vice, a grinder and a huge pipe wrench before it eventually surrendered. It all went back together pretty well, despite the rain and after a bit of a battle getting the cross member back on and some messing about refilling the box (empty, empty, empty, FULL) it were done. 6 hours and a bit from start to finish.
A big thank you to Fabio, without whom this would not have happened.
