What have you done to your Landie today.

I had always said that I was getting a bit long in the tooth for lying in the gutter under a vehicle, but there are some jobs it's just not worth going to a garage for.

Three jobs done today:

1. The window regulator in the driver's door was playing up; clunking like gears jumping out of mesh at the top and bottom of the travel and being able to pull the window down about four inches by hand. Removed the door trim, cut my way into the water screen and found that the winder motor and regulator which should have six bolt fixing it to the door only had three. Rummaged around in the bottom of the door, found the missing bolts and refitted them. Plenty of gaffer tape to make good the water screen and refitted the door trim. Window is now working within expected parameters.

2. Fitted a new front prop shaft. The original had a small amount of play at the axle end, I could barely feel it but it's there, either in the UJ or the sliding joint. I looked at repairing the original unit but working on the premise that I would have to remove it either way and the parts to rebuild it were about 60 quid, plus the fact that I don't have the kit to use as a press to do the rebuilding I decided to bite the bullet and get a new unit with the extra grease nipples on the double cardan joint as well as the UJ at the axle end. Grease up and fitted, all OK.

3. While I was in the mood and on a roll, I decided to grease the rear prop shaft too. Encountered the usual problem of having to get the shaft turned to just the right spot so that the grease gun nozzle went onto the nipple deep on the UJ, but it all went OK too. (Note to self. Replace nipple with a longer one next time.)

All-in-all a good day and well pleased.
 
Know both places.

One is the BOAT on Eglwysilan, the other is a well used off piste route probably entered where an ex girlfriend used to live and just up the road from ours.
 
The 'Black Duck' is now all sanded off almost ready for top coat of blue

Nice day tomorrow I hope, painted new rear door today and the wind got up and blew bits of crap on it:mad:

Few more tweaks and its ready for paint, its only a Landy after all:rolleyes::)

Been busy this week... checked off things to do before the MOT, picked up some new wheels and rims for Yogi and got through the MOT with no advisories... which was good!
 
finally got round to getting the O/S front tyre changed over. After 3months of a slow puncture, 2 cans of tyre weld and a daily visit to the air pump, finally weren't enough. So took the spare tyre off the steel spare and had it put on the front alloy, & picked up me reserve spare from the workshop. :D Only charged £15 to remove both tyres fit the good one balance it and dispose of the old tyre.

I removed the trailing arm lower bushes using the drill and hacksaw method, wasn't that bad actually, had the brother in law round so we took it in turns to attack it and seemed to go quite quickly. Then wire brushed and rust converted them, now hanging in the garage drying.
 
Parked it in a quite posh school car park in amongst some pretty new and expensive metal - Looked hard as fook, all muddied and scruffy in amongst the new tin.

Don't think the dainty little teacher creature was happy mind to find her brand shiny noo Fiat 500 overshadowed by a scabby '98 disco!

The kids thought it were ace - tidy!:banana::crazy:
