hmm.. i might look into getting some springs, had my dizzy apart recently.. previously had a jumpy acceleration.
That's my next job.
Brought a couple of air jobbies with wee compressor.
The man from the MOT station said yes
Its not the springs that wear usually, its the posts that they are attached to, there are many many different springs depending on the engine, some are stronger to hold back the mechanical advance for longer, depends on the cam etc. Just make it as the manufacturer intended and in good condition, working etc then play with the advance, you need as much advance as poss without pinking, forget static settings because they don't allow for wear in the drive for dizzy / dizzy, timing chain etc , your static setting could be 5 degrees out when the engine is running.
With no vac advance connected and at idle just turn the dizzy till the engine speed rises and you're not far off, if it slows then go back, either way it don't matter, if too advanced it will slow and if too retarded it will slow so cant go wrong really.
Don't be afraid of ign timing, plenty on the internet about it and its easy once you have grasped the basics
Had a road rage incident and chased a chav, After he cut me up on a roundabout and then threw a can of drink at me. I think I frightened the ****e out of him . lost the fooker though I needs a V8
Legend... shame you didnt get the Cnut
nice one PaulForgot to say, winch wired direct to the battery for now, I need a cut-off switch. I had used a solenoid, but the ones I had were really unreliable, I suspect couldn't take the current, I went through three before I ripped the solenoid out and dumped the associated extra wiring and connections to make it much simpler. There is a cut-off switch in the cab via a relay to the main solenoid pack, but this probably isn't reliable or good enough to stop a real 'runaway'.
Who cares, it works
