What have you done to your Freelander today

Had my subframes blasted, inspected and powder coated. Nice to build up on a clean frame. Sorry to raise it!!
Defo like the needle gun, never seen one.

Andy, your posts need more pics! Sort it out!

BTW, if we are up for a Devon and Cornwall meet I think it needs to be in your neighbourhood so we can check out your fleet.
 
The pictures look lovely, a really nice build you have been doing there, but way beyond what I'm planning on doing to my freelander at this time. I might drop the subframe and hammerite it, but there is no way I'm going to stat sending parts off for powdercoating. If I were to pursue such a nut and bolt restoration on any car, it would be my Citroen BX Gti16v, or the Jaguar XJR, the freelander workscope is to futureproof its reliability, not to make it factory fresh. Everything will be assembled with antiseizing greases as appropriate, I detest the use of copperslip on Aluminium parts - you've no idea the ammount of offshore machinery wrecked by lubricating fastners and fittings in aluminium components that I've seen - so if in a year or two, I decide to powercoat everything, it will be so much easier to remove all the parts.

Cooper Weather Master WSC; I did a fair bit of research and they were the most affordable yet still good quality tyres. Around £100/corner. I’ve been green laning in them a fair few times, nothing too ambitious, and they’ve not let me down. Remarkably good at holding pressure too.
 
Since before xmas I've been dealing with a bit of a missfire on my 05MY TD4 auto. It got quite bad and felt like one of the injectors had failed. Whilst fearing injectors may need pulling I turned off my Synergy box which seemed to make a big difference. The missfire began to return though and gradualy got worse, and was occuring at lower and lower revs. Today, driving in slow traffic became particularly uncomfortable as a result.

So, I got home from work and had a quick look. First port of call, Synergy connections. I wiggled the cable to the fuel rail pressure sensor and the engine stopped. "Oh!" I thought. Turned over the engine but it wouldn't fire. I took the connector off and I could see that the middle cable was not seated properly in the connector. I refitted it with the middle cable pushed home. The car started first turn and idled nice and smooth (well, as smooth as it always has done). I took it for a drive and it felt pretty good. I hope I'm not counting my chickens here but if it's sorted as simply as that I will be very happy.
 
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, if thats all it was it was a nice easy fix :)

I got my two driveshafts cleaned, and one hub body descaled, wold have liked to have got the second one but my hand was buzzing from the vibrations from the needle gun so called it a wrap - it will still be there tomorrow.
 
Fitted new front pipe and cat to the G4 to get rid of the rattly cat. Replaced VCU bearings and refitted prop as snow can be seen on Exmoor!

Straight forward jobs made harder by previous 'garage servicing'. I have the history so know this to be true. Underbody engine cover bolts rounded and left in place, rivets on cover drilled out and replaced with cable ties! Exhaust sections held together with wrong bolts, much too long and not threaded all the way along so the solution is, of course, to fit as many loose fitting nuts and washers and then tighten it till the nut runs off the thread and jams leaving the gas tight joint.... Well, not gas tight!

Took longer to repair / replace the bodges than the original job.

Will check out both O2 sensors on Torque in the morning.

Quiet engine and quiet bearings!
 
Finally got it back to work; recovering the trailer from a bush it was stashed in.

Sorry If its a bit long but doing my best to describe my problem smell---- (the cars not mine)
Sadly my "work" on my TD4 HSE seems trivial but was needed.
OK, late yesterday afternoon, going shopping meant my daughter putting the shopping bags in the boot.
Now she had already once broken off the tailgate handle, requiring me to re attach it to its place with black "sikaflex" as a do for now job as I bought one from the world of BAY to fit when the sun shines, but..
Well after Daughter put shopping in the boot I started smelling what smelt like Cellulose paint and the smell was quite strong, anyway thought perhaps it was her nail varnish or something.
Later that evening I had a rush to get my granddaughter to Hospital some 20 miles away, and the smell had got worse requiring the rear windows open a bit..
left them there went home - windows open a bit..
got the phone call some hours later - come get me please so off I went, STILL over powering smell of paint or something, then came home..
parked up all night side windows open a bit. - Then most of today under my car port with tailgate window open, most of my "car bits" in Tesco carrier bags (yes I know) I took out and left elsewhere ..
Just been out hours later and, the smell Is STILL there, but its nothing left except 4 (yes I know) of them tyre / puncture - pump up cans I left in the tail gate pocket but they dont smell..
Where the heck does cellulose paint smell come from ??
Its as If I got a open tin of paint, or someones left a rattle can with no top on and its got the spray nossel pressed..
SORRY, but I just dont know..
Maybe tomorrow look under the rear seats ?
under the boot floor - Jack in the box areas ?
Nose plugs ?
LOL
 
Never mind victorian kids being sent up the chimney, get todays kids prepping for your OWUT test. I think I've finally found that cheap source of labour I've been looking for...

I'd get him to give the motor the clean it needs after this week's back lane motoring but he'd only get as far as the windows.

OWUT test when warm done this eve. I'll be doing it again in the morning when cold and post both sets of results on the VCU thread tomorrow.
