I was outside till 10:30 last night with the Karcher giving the old girl a clean in readiness for relis arriving today and a bit of a road trip.

The neighbour can't complain about the pressure washer being used at that time of night.. it was him chatting away to me for most the evening that had me running late. He did go home with a big bag of peaches off our tree as well :)

Well, good news and bad news RE the MOT.

Passed, with no advisories! BUT, the mechanic managed to break the boot door handle! Fook knows how. Anyway, they're fixing it now with a new part from Landrover. I suppose that's good news given that the handles are a bit on the temperamental/fragile side.

Why would they be opening the boot for the MOT?

Good news on the MOT.

The boot is opened to check for the operation and security of the latch/ hinges. ;)

Do you have much metal behind the handle? Prime rot-spot - my FL came with the boot handle held on with tape wrapped around the wiper.....

I'm not sure. I'll have to ask them what condition it is in. I'm a bit reluctant to though as they're obviously doing it at their cost at the moment. I've no reason to think that there is any though from the general condition of the car.

Free handle though - they're not cheap!

Lots of cars look rust free until you bend down and look up at the handle.
The mechanic probably pulled too hard without waiting for the latch to open. Done the same myself.

I always wait momentarily between squeezing the latch release button and pulling on the door - I think this is instinctively as I worry about giving the window sufficient time to wind down before opening!

I do this too!

The latch won't actually release until the window is down far enough to clear the top seal. Just remember not to pull the door handle, before the latch has released. ;)

Last week I replaced the wiper blades. Today they fell to bits in the middle of tropical cyclone Fehi and half hour from the nearest town. Limped scarily into Las Twizel for replacements. All in all it was a long 470km road trip!

Blimey GG! How did they fall apart! Having had wipers fail on another car, you really don't appreciate HOW important they are until they don't do their job!!!

Glad you got to the nearest town safely! :)

First I knew something was up was a knocking type noise as the wipers changed direction. I thought the wiper mechanism was about to pack up. Then noticed that the metal strengtheners had slid out of the rubber part of the wiper by about 8 or 10 inches and it was them bashing the window or bodywork that was making the noise. I stopped and slid them back in but they just worked their way back out really quickly.

The replacement I got in Twizel is strengthened by plastic with the rubber fixed to it seems much more sensible.
