What have you done to your Freelander today

taken it to the garage only to be told the transfer box is fooked any one know where in the midlands i can get a reasonable priced second hand 1

there is a man just up the road from Cradock's in Cannock who has a few Freelander's and splits them and some body on here knows him, other than that EBay but be careful

( local dealers .. expensive .. but top notch know-how and work ..
( am half expecting "sorry .. looks like it's the slave cylinder ..
( and .. oh look your clutch is quite worn! .. shall we renew that while we're in there ? "


No problem as rule of thumb on the R75 M47 diesel we would change both the master and the slave to stop contamination, also if they are the original sods law would say that if you just change the slave the master will go a couple of weeks later.

I had both my MGZT and my R75 Tourer go with in 12 months of each other the MGZT first and the place I had do it only changed the slave and clutch, 18 days later the master went even though I said to the company I want the master doing at the same time, I let them talk me out of it :( but did not make the same mistake with the R75 diesel ;) good luck personally I would change the lot Arctic2

I unpacked a big shipment from Island 4x4 last night so today it's going to be a big push to take old stuff out and put new stuff in. By monday I hope my Freelander is running and driving its been over a year now. It's snowing right now so 4x4 will be appreciated.

Bit late now - but I keep looking at the Ice Desigs 'Shedist style' clutch kits - which although designed for a Rover would appear to fit a Freelader (will have to do a search sometime to see if anyone has fitted one).
Saying that....they arent cheap, but appear to sort a few of the known issues out

i googled that 'n found:

mine's an '06 TD4 .. 91380 miles on clock
IF it turns out to be the slave cylinder being the problem
then i might get the clutch replaced as a matter of course given the mileage
( i.e. seeing as the gearbox etc etc has to be removed )
however the dealership will Only fit land-rover parts ..
i.e. dual mass flywheel 'n such
if i wanted .. lets say .. a single mass flywheel with the clutch
i'd have to take it to another place ..
be ok if it came to that as the dealership recommends another local landy-specialist place
that they often send work to .. and has a good local reputation ..
and that place will fit aftermarket bits 'n pieces ..

am hoping it's just the master cylinder that needs replacing ..
( be separate on a td4 .. unlike the 1.8 petrol motor )
m.cylinder bracket and pushrod thingy look ok ..
clutch weren't slipping .. no odd rattly noises .. or smell of burning hydraulic fluid ..
on the other hand wouldn't know what slave cylinder leak would do ..
apart from messing up clutch operation :)

never had a clutch fail on me before .. on any vehicle .. hgv thru to mortorcycle ..

Today has been a nightmare, started off with a view to overhaul the brakes and start replacing the clutch but that was not for happening.

Ended up:

1) Releasing the bonnet after the bonnet release cable snapped at the lock no doubt. Was easy enough albeit slightly tedious.

2) Dead battery, got the new one yesterday but the battery clamp bolt was just spinning. Had to cut that out with a Dremel.

3) When checking the spark plugs I pulled the head straight off a lead - leaving the silicon shroud and socket the spark plug sits in inside the cylinder head (was easy to remove - pliers were good enough) but it did mean another trip to Euro Car Parts for leads.

4) RH front staked nut is chewed to hell from previous owners assumed lack of understanding so that won't come off with the tools I have.

Fun day for me I'd say, good thing I have tomorrow free too.

Did you get the battery clamp nut out of the moulding ok ?

Bought a 2000 reg Freelander as spares for my 2005 reg today - been driving it all day - it's great , better than the new one :)

Didn't attempt it in all honesty, waiting to get my grinder back then I'll just nip it off and then probably make a better one using two bolts and a strip of metal or ratchet straps :p
 
two jobs done today drop links went well:) broken tail gate regulator didnt go well:( regulator works but when i try to open the door the rear window doesnt drop down enough to clear the top trim any ideas:confused:
 
Today I dropped the propshaft-VCU-package. It's -2C outside and it took 3hrs thanks to rusted/frozen everything. Putting it back should be easier.
