That seems to be a term used. It simply works as a front wheel drive. It also will reduce the load on my worn rear diff, soon to be replaced!!

Amazed at how quickly this VCU failed!! It is stuck fast!! Bell supplied 8 years ago and 80k so not bad, but very fast degradation.

I've never looked into it. He was banned before I joined the forum.
Covid strikes the FL2... went to take it out for a spin and what a noise from the handbrake..
Both wheel mechanisms seized - not too much could still drive but enough to make getting the discs off a right job.
top tip just as you have beat them enough to get a screwdriver in the front center - don't - i didn't been there done that - but you can now get access to the shoe inside behind the disk and push it back off the drum. I did notice while i was in there one of the shocks is leaking - looks like a fun job - watched Alex the grumpy one youtube lol

Sold it. Got next to nothing for it but it was just sitting there and the insurance is due next month and that costs more than the value of the car. I'll miss it, it was a good car and never let me down. Time now to concentrate more on the series and eminant demise of the wife

Someone just posted a link to these guys, and as I was looking through their stuff, I saw an IRD blanking plate and silicone gasket kit pretty cheap, so I thought I'd post a link here to make it easier to find when I have to go Mondo mode myself. @andyfreelandy What did you use as a blanking plate, and do you need to drain the oil from the IRD before doing the conversion? I am assuming yes on that one.

Given Andy is only runnning in mondo mode temporarily and as a preventative measure while he refurbs his overly stiff IRD, I'd imagine hes just removed the prop leaving the drive pinion and prop flange in place. The blanking plate is for when the IRD has suffered internal damage, usually on the bearings for the drive pinion, so the drive pinion /drive flange assembly is unbolted from the back of the IRD and the blanking plate goes in its place.

2005 TD4, took the front bumper off. Every one of the screws on the wheel arch liners had to be battled with. Ended up resorting to an angle grinder after various abortive attempts to drill the f'ing things out.. Used the removal write up from here which was excellent. Been meaning to do it for a while and the rear washer packing up was the impetus. Should be very simple in future as I'm going to use decent fasteners on refit. There looks to be a blockage in the washer pipe to the rear, the pump is working fine. I disconnected the join in the pipe in the RHS of the "boot" where there's a non-return valve (that works fine) and nothing getting through from the pump. Pressurised the pipe from the reservoir to the join in the "boot" and then from that back to the reservoir but no joy. Anybody know if there's another NRV in the line? I guess the pipes run along the inner sill under the carpet? On the up side I shorted out the FBH sensor and the FBH sprung to life which is good.

I wouldn't remove the 4wd permanently due to the changes in handling and performance characteristics.

Folded the back sheets down and FILLED it with 10 weeks worth of recycle rubbish in anticipation of the council tip reopening next week. Mind you, I had to remove tons of junk just to fill it with rubbish; bit of a lose-lose situation.
Our local tip aren't taking recycling, cardboard or anything vaguely useful. All ours it taking is black bag rubbish and garden waste. I can only visit my tip, if my number plate is authorized for that day too, which is all pointless imho.
I just leave everything out for the weekly black bag rubbish collection.
installed new rotors, carriers & pads after finally (after at least a year) diagnosing a noisy off-side front brake. Seized guide pin for the win. Inner pad, rotor & carrier were toast. Been living with a seized clutch release fork for about 2 years - savings in petrol over the past few months allowed me to pay to have it sorted & a new clutch put in - gear change was still tight - that slave bracket is poor. took off the flimsy slave bracket & threw it away - installed a lightly modded bracket with more rigidity & gear change is back to normal.
Now all those noises and distractions are gone I can hear that cluck from the rear off-side over uneven surfaces - thinks it's time for new bushes all round.
