What have you done to your Freelander today

Fixed the clutch hydralucs finally.... Also did the brakes disks and pads. Had 95% left on pads and 70% left of disks but they were rusted and groved away. Pads fell apart on emptying and disk needed such a massive sledge hammer attack to get off. But all sorted now and no squeling... Loving the hippo more and more
Quick q. I tightened the caliper bolts to 28nM as the manual says but on other cars I used a threadlocker like red loctit. Do people do this and torque to 25 or no use and leave at 28?
I normally go with PFT.
Never had a problem. :)

Today I swapped the wheels front to back and back to front. I also swapped the fronts side to side when fitting them on the back. I gave the wheels a good clean and polish as they were looking rather dirty after 1200 miles, especially the fronts.

Before and after shot. Can you tell the difference.

Got the third master / slave fitted yesterday it seems ok
Hopefully the expensive one has decent seals
Third time lucky !!!
Must remember not to buy from ebay in future

Freelander hasn't needed anything doing, but took the 'backup' Starlet for its WOF (MOT) today. It failed on a couple of bulbs, a tyre, the drivers seat being unsafe and the quarter glass in the rear passenger door not being glass (it was broken by a low-life breaking into it and I've 'filled' it with a bit of plastic). A front CV is shockingly bad, the 2 front windows (manual wind) are broke, and the fan belt or something on it is crying something cronic. Mrs Grumpy suggested it might be time to get rid and replace it - GREEN LIGHT :)

The engine/box/clutch are sound and its only done 125k miles. Its a '92 1.3EFI that we've owned for 15 years and its needed next to nothing in that time. Its probably worth $1,000 (£500) fixed and warranted and the bits to fix it will be under that.. but I'm not sure I can be arsed to do all that work.

So, looking to out it and get another Freelander - something I don't mind spending a bit of time on and something I can pimp a bit for off road capability. As its for off road, I fancy an auto so that means TD4 or V6. I don't fancy fuelling a V6 or driving that hot engine into a river or having the HG go in the middle of nowhere - so that means TD4. There's a few options around at the mo as well.

This one is knocking 200k miles and is a long way away so would cost a bit to get here, but I have a good red bonnet and head lining on the parts car...

This one's even further away and similar high mileage, but a higher spec, dunno what it will go for, possibly as high as $5k which would not be an option...

https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/us...46.htm?rsqid=1083ef47741945428675cd98d20cb07d

This one's a local low-miler, shame its manual...

https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/us...47.htm?rsqid=1083ef47741945428675cd98d20cb07d

Shame the L Series doesn't come with an auto option...

https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/us...52.htm?rsqid=1083ef47741945428675cd98d20cb07d

There's a few L Series in good nick for sale at the mo, but they want to much cash.

Silver 1 in second add

@GrumpyGel
The first red one says slipping gears on steep hills, AVOID, unless you fancy stripping an auto box
The silver one looks a better bet, would you be able to test drive before buying, or is it just bid and cross your fingers?
Mike
Looks popular that one. Its over 1,000km (600 miles) away, so no chance of a test drive.

This one is local, but £3K and 250k kms - not surprisingly its been listed for ages...

https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/us...58.htm?rsqid=4951384aeaa6428c88dc60d6df625c84

This one's at least on the same island, but still a 5 hour drive away. Once again lots of cash at £3K, been listed for ages and for a 2002, but its only 100k miles and I recon the owner might be more open to an offer at 1/2 its listed price!

Wow sheds are very expensive in NZ G G

@GrumpyGel
Top one is in good condition, but very expensive, I doubt he'll move much on the price of that one.
But the second one is good for its age, and as it's wof and other thing has expired you could get a deal. I like the pre facelift cars, it's only the seats that aren't as comfy as the newer one that really makes a difference.

Lol sorry Grumpy couldn't resist, how about choosing the best you can afford and maybe have it transported to your home ?
If you trust say the dealer/seller over the phone as you know all the car's faults you may strike lucky.
I know buying blind has huge risks but so does driving 400k on a round trip to only find out it's fooked !

It would worry me why they wouldn't add a new wof less it's really expensive over there ?
I would expect a uk dealer to issue a new mot at point of sale.

There are a few transportation companies that shift cars around the country, but I don't think I'd get any change out of £500 to get one shipped from the North Island. tbh I wouldn't trust anyone selling a car - private or dealer - if the car only had what they said was wrong, that would be a real bonus :)

I think the 2002 car in Nelson only has an expired WOF because its been for sale for so long - which is one reason why I think they might be more flexible on price. In a comment on the auction, they also said back in April that they'd take £2K for a "quick sale".

Just put a cheeky bid in for the 2002, they might come back with a compromise, you can always say no. They must want to get rid of it by now.
