What have you done to your Freelander today

MY FL1 horn wasn't working from the steering wheel buttons. The horn would blip if I tried to remote lock the doors with one door open so I thought it was a fair bet that the fuse and relay were OK.

Based on the collective wisdom here I went for the rotary coupler. The price of a new unit was prohibitive so I bought a used rotary coupler and just finished fitting it. Bingo!

(And I even managed to post that without resorting to the usual double entendres about the horn).

... and fixed my passenger seat heating by replacing the control module, around £5 from breakers or £15 off the bay, my missus will be pleased in her having her bum warmed now .:p

My passenger side seat heating has packed in, the light on the switch comes on, but was wondering how to approach trying to fix it…
Where is the cm module located, is there one for each side…?
Thank you

Check the small white plug has not come loose, it may be hanging down underneath the seat or it may still be poked through the hole in the seat sub frame but not connected. To reconnect it take the large plastic cover off the side of the sub frame.

Gave the old girl a wash and wax. Looks a bit better:)

Very smart wish mine looked like that ,it does on the odd occasion that i give it a good clean but because i do a lot of fishing and the pool is down a dirt track then across two fields it doesnt stay that clean for long .

nothing - a year and a half ago I bought a 2002 freelander with 1.8 K-series engine, stuck a new head on it & filled it with all the oil & coolant - drive line went a bit wonky when an engine mount bolt fell out but new bolt sorted it out - but really I do nothing. It uses no coolant or oil at all.

What should I do to it today? I should really replace the rear diff o/s oil seal, replace the rear diff bushes & change the oil in the gear box

Cheers
Simon

It's always wise to do a bit PPM Simon;)
Maybe test the VCU using the one wheel up test too.

Fitted 5 new BF Goodrich AT tyres all round. A much quieter drive now. The old tyres still had some tread but the tyre walls were showing their age.

Replaced mates 2003 1.8 k series engine that had totalled itself. He bought an earlier model engine 52kmiles only with distributor from a MGF to replace it. So if anyone out there needs to know what has to be changed over for it to work just ask. Runs lovely.

One or two others here have tried this but had problems. Any chance of you drawing up a 'how too'?

I just installed an EGR unit, pretty easy, 20 min job. Seems its running smoother when i rev it as it stuttered previously. The piston on the egr i took off doesnt move, i thought i would be able to move it up at least so am guessing it was seized?

EGR or EGR bypass? I'm not sure you can move them easily by hand.

I changed 3 window cables today. 2 in the mother in laws V6 (ex mine) and the NSF in my 05 SE. All went smoothly which is a bonus. I also checked the vacuum level, just to prove the pipework. Engine at idle shows 25Hg, dropping to 24Hg 5 minutes after switch off, so I guess the piping is ok.
My £25 ebay MAF arrived today so that's going on in the morning. I'll see how that affects the misbehaving TD4 then.

Well I had a spare 1/2 hour so decided to change the glow plugs that I'd pre-lubed a couple of weeks ago. 3 came out easily, 1 didn't move. Typically the 1 that wouldn't move is a dud. But I'm hoping that it's going to start a whole lot better when cold with 3 working plugs. Tomorrow I'll fit my £25 MAF!
