What have I done?

Hello to anybody who has bothered reading this far.
I've just bought my first Landy having retired about a month ago. I've always wanted one, never got round to it and now that retirement has arrived, I've finally done it. It's a 1981 88" Series 3 hardtop pretending to be a 90.
I'm aiming, over the next few weeks/months/years to try to get it looking like a Series 3 again. I bought it as one of the rare front wheel drive models, but a new half shaft has returned it to rear wheel/ four wheel drive. All it needs now is all the front panels changing, two new tub sides, get rid of the wide arches, put some proper wheels on it, get rid of the matt black paint job, get some standard seats, remove all the silver foil 'insulation' that's stuck all over the inside, remove chequer plate rash..... etc. etc. etc.. It does have a few good points, the engine is a 2.5 diesel, although I don't know where it came from yet, and it's got an overdrive that works. It would appear that my offroading is going to be restricted to it being off the road whilst I do all the above work.
I've built a lot of kit cars in the past and I've also restored a couple of classics, so I'm not daunted by any of the above although I'm sure that I'll be asking for help and advice in the future.
My wife isn't convinced about the landy , but we live in a semi-rural location and every approach to the house is via either country lanes or a steep hill. I'm sure she'll change her mind about the landy when it's the only way of getting out of the house. I've got my fingers crossed for a severe winter. :)
Anyway, that's enough from me for now, I'm off outside with a circuit tester and a puzzled expression to try to get the rear fog and hazard flashers working.

Who'd want to disguise a Series as a 90? o_O
My thoughts exactly, I've already acquired a pair of tattyish wings and the lower front panel, they'll be in the garage getting tarted up for fitting when I've acquired the front panel, grille and bonnet. I've also got to replace/resite the radiator further back and move the air filter back before the surgery takes place.

I've got a Series deluxe type bonnet you can have if you want to pick it up from Stroud anytime
 
Welcome Conner. I've just got my first Landy too. It's a 54 plate defender 110. I was suppose to pick it up today but have to wait till Friday now. She needs a bit of work done but it'll be a great project. I've stuck up a picture of the beast. Good luck buddy

I drive a Defender by the way!

I have a 1964 2A I started taking apart to recommission and gave up when I saw how much work the bulkhead needed, but the other day my next door neighbour showed me the repair panels he got for his, then we got talking and I mentioned my seatbox needs work, and he has a very good one going spare. I asked him as a joke if he had a spare bonnet. He has. I'm skint at the moment, but swmbo mumbled something about Christmas, so it looks like I'll have to stay on her good side for a while, then I might be back on track!

Saw on FB yesterday while bereft of LZ that someone is doing proper vent repair panels now

Nice to see another fellow series owner on the scene. I'm not quite sure why people try and disguise a series as a Defender.

Don't forget to add a few pictures now and then. We all like to have a nosey at what you're up to.

Will do, I'm doing the bare minimum for now until I get a new MOT. Two weeks holiday first, then MOT, then get started. I've got the rear fog working, and the indicators, I've given up on the hazard flashers as it doesn't appear to have any! Could be why I can't get them to work, there's not much gets past me. :)
