Hi

I am a new 1st time landy owner and being such have a lot to learn

I bought my t200i 110 station wagon without noticing it had no radiator fan, I know pretty stupid.

however I need to sort this and I am unsure what to do, can anyone shed any light on how I get a decent fan on this, working and on a budget?

whats my options?

Sounds as if someone has removed the viscous fan in which case if you can get one from a scrappy just fit it back on. This is probably the cheapest and easiest option. Many tend to fit electric fans though and there are plenty variations from expensive kenlowe fans, eBay kits or just any electric fan from a scrap motor. Mine has a leccy fan from a Renault fitted for example and its quite effective
 
gonna buy a leccy fan as last owner has changed water pipe work so that viscous and cover will no longer fit in the hole, I will just mount it from the top bolts on the rad with a couple of metal bars then it does not matter which fan I buy.

just learnt that the syncros are gone in 3rd gear so that's a recon gearbox at some point in the near future

plus the steering column needs new spine joints, thats next weekend sorted

I'm in the same boat as you having bought a 110 about a week ago. The general consensus was in the uk it doesn't need a fan!

i wouldnt risk it ,you dont need a fan while theres air flowing through rad but a warm day and slow traffic can soon boil an engine
 
I recently bought one of the eBay kits for £70 ish, in the recent warm weather i cannot fault it, the engine has stayed cool and not got anywhere near the red mark.
 
Mine has been welded to the top slam panel and at the bottom of the radiator. Rather cleverly done by some mong who owned the vehicle before me. Just connects to some wiring I rigged up via a switch and relay. It works very well though but I'd rather it were easily removable should I need to take it off
 
I've been looking at getting a fan myself as I'm currently running a fanless 200 TDI.

I've been making fairly short trips around town, frequently encountering traffic and rarely reaching speeds above 30 mph. I've been keeping a careful eye on the engine temp and checking the top and bottom hoses. The hottest my bottom pipe has got is low 40's. But my radiator is brand new, so the cooling should be optimal.

I have a fan on order though as it's stressing me out constantly watching that gauge. The tricky bit looks to be monitoring the hose temp. X-Engineering do a nice looking coupler but it's not cheap. Initially I'm going to just manually switch it via a relay and turn it on when I feel in need of comfort!
 
With an electric fan, do any of you still have the fan cowl fitted or is it just mounted to rad and that's it?

In slow traffic, my temp gauge does start to creep up towards the red, which always makes me worry, and I find that I am always watching the gauge. Also, the gauge reads differently every single day based on the outside temperature!

I've seen pics where peeps have retained the cowl with leccy fan but I can't see the point. For the cowl to work, the fan would have to be away from rad and towards the engine. If your going to do that, you might as well just use the viscous fan.

If I had a cowl, I would use a viscous personally but as mine is a disco 200 in a defender, I don't have a cowl that fits.

I've ordered 16" fan which I'm hoping will pretty much cover most of water part of the rad. I'll be fixing it close to the cores so that it pulls air directly through.
 
I had the normal visco fan which I removed as I think it was buggered. It would turn regardless of the engine temperature. I removed the fan and cowling and fitted a Kenlowe fan in the hope that the Landies heaters would be warmer in the winter. I did drive the Landy for about three months without a fan in temperatures of 35 degrees without any over heating issues. The Kenlowe fan has been faultless, mind you I have only heard it come on three times in three years. The Kenlowe bolts straight onto the rad. I bought the Kenlowe as it came with all the electrical switches etc and brackets to attach it to the rad and it was easy to fit. If I was doing it again I think I would try replacing the visco fan first . I have seen them from Paddocks for about £39. I paid about £116 for the Kenlowe fan. I have seen cheaper electric fans on ebay but not sure how good they are. My Kenlowe has survived several trips through the river and still works fine. I'm not sure how well these cheaper electric ones wold do.
 
Got an electric fan fitted to my 110 - the previous owner had bolted on something from a VW that was far too small, so i decided to do it up properly. The fan itself is on a bolted-up bracket that is then attached to the shroud mounting points - so no modifications to the radiator or anything else in the truck.

Em I think that the viscous fan is supposed to turn freely with the engine running anyway. If the viscous clutch was stuck then it would spin properly regardless of temp in which case yeah it is kinda buggered but not overly difficult or expensive to replace/fix
 
Got a pretty new rad in mine and despite all the hot weather we have been having the electric fan never comes on and gauge never goes above about half way on the temperature gauge.. Just get a cheap one for that 1 day a year where it's roasting and you are stuck in slow moving traffic for ages.

I think this is good advice. My rad is new and I've not seen temps of more than 50 on the bottom hose. Bottom of rad is always cool to the touch. I bought a universal 16" fan of ebay. I've fitted it but not wired it in yet. I connected it to my power supply as a test and I can feel it pulling air through the rad. It would work even better with a cowling.
 
I have a spare one from a old stag, need to check that's its a pull and not a push, but that should work just fine
