Hi

I have a 1986 110 Land Rover hard top. It’s not a series and it’s not a defender, so what do I call it? When people ask me there’s no simple way of telling them (‘it’s a 110 Land Rover’ ‘oh a Defender’ ‘no earlier than that’ ‘oh a Series 3?’ ‘No later than that!’) ! Unless you guys know of a simple description!!

Series 3.5, the directors cut

Mines a 90 from 1989. That can confuse......It's a 1989-90......Not helped by the defender sticker on on the front and the 200TDI Defender engine!

Heheheh, yeah, mine's an '89 90, with a 300Tdi engine, axles ... and other bits! .... I mostly just tell people it's a Landrover, or a shthole when it falls apart ... ;)

I took my friend to a job interview and he told me that Land Rovers are types of Jeeps because "Jeep" is the vehicle style.

You didn't thrash him too soundly one hopes?

I have no issues with folks calling my 90 a "Jeep". Like it or not, that's where the LR idea came from, and it was, and still is a very capable vehicle. Try buying an original jeep.

Neither was a "Jeep" until the name stuck. A bit like Jerry Cans I suppose.

Lot's of things were called Jeep - source wikipedia
"The word "jeep" however, was used as early as World War I, as US Army slang for new uninitiated recruits, or by mechanics to refer to new unproven vehicles. In 1937, tractors which were supplied by Minneapolis Moline to the US Army were called jeeps. A precursor of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was also referred to as the jeep.[34]"

Not forgetting my personal favorite, Eugene the Jeep from Popeye, in #9 :D

Since when? Only by people who can't tell them apart or, don't know the difference between a Focus and an Astra.
They are both cars
Disagree, PC is an acronym. Calling a Landy a Jeep is a travesty :)
well yes and no
1) PC is short for personal computer or IBM PC. The first personal computer produced by IBM was called the PC, and increasingly the term PC came to mean IBM or IBM-compatible personal computers, to the exclusion of other types of personal computers, such as Macintoshes.
