Most tuning boxes fool the map by altering the fuel pressure sensor into delivering more fuel.
Over time, this can kill fuel pumps (both low and high pressure) and injectors and even make ECU's fail dramatically, (they log random errors).
Much better to get a re-map.
Edit.....sometimes symptoms take 3 to 6 months to show....hard driving will exacerbate failure...
Some folks on here just want to take the **** out of my comments...

Hi Bob,
I think the one you need is a VP37 and it was £250 + vat but a quick phone call will put your mind at rest.
The difference is of course more power
how much depends on who you talk to but it's around 20% more.They also say that you'll save on fuel but more power means you'll use more fuel (well that's how I see it)
But the bonus is that the engine can cruise at speed even up hill, before I fitted mine it would change down if you had to clime even a slight gradient but now it romps up and feels much more relaxed...

Now I'm no expert but if fitting one of these boxes can do so much damage to your engine surely there would be a long list of threads with people moaning about damaged pumps, injectors and ECU's!!!
Don't get me wrong I'm not against re-mapping look at my garage there isn't anything standard about them (well apart from the tractor)

I fitted a genuine "superchip" to my engine ECU several years ago - a big job if you do it yourself and not for the fainthearted. It has however transformed my DSE.
BHP increased by 25%. Torque - more important for an off roader - increased by 33%. Overall mileage better by probably 2 mpg.
It is a proper remap rather than a quick fix.

Far from it! I may have not put it very well but I do think it has improved the mpg especially on a long run, again by how much is a matter of opinion!
I've done the brim test on a few long trips and I reckon she's returning around the 27 mpg mark but the gadget on the dash tells me I'm doing 30 (I wish....)

wouldnt that be nice..... havnt had mine above 22mpg on the dash since the cold snap, motorway or local!:flame2:

what u getting from yours since the cold? im surprised how low mines got always used to b around 24 arond town and 26 plus on a run ive changed oil and filter air filter and all the injector spill pipes but still low mpg

Well I haven't checked lately but I'd say she's doing around the 25 mark. I'm off to Warminster on Christmas day so I'll do another test.

If you want to save money and go the "superchip" route I can tell you the way to go. Buying it new costs an arm and a leg.
An eprom chip needs to be removed from the Bosch engine ecu circuit board and a new one fitted with a small circuit board or "comms unit" in between. If you can find one secondhand a "superchip" agent or specialist diesel engineer can fit it and set it up instead of doing it yourself.

Hi Golan, mine has turned in a long term average over 19 months using brim to brim checks of 24mpg. On the autoroute I have recorded 30mpg again on brim to brim with the dash showin 34mpg.

What do you think a remap does if it does not cause the FIP to deliver more fuel?
The power box on my DHSE has been in place for about 50k miles with no ill effects, no smoke, no emmisions problems (stricter in France than the UK) good economy and performance. If it was just shoving in more fuel without regard to other parameters it would be unlikely to pass an emissions test.
Why do keep showing yourself up as a complete numpty?

going back a few posts: my MPG on my car was down around 20 since the cold weather. I changed the thermostat 2 days ago, and I'm pretty sure I'm back up to > 25mpg.
I'm putting it down to the thermostat being stuck open, and the ECU being constantly in cold start mode.
