This is why meets were handy. unless it’s cps which you could pull over- freeze spray - if it then settles that’s it , will put my money on fuel flow out of range is all it will say. This is why I never bothered getting a nanocom. I know what is buggered and old - all of it don’t need a code for that.The closest specialist won't touch P38s, but there is a place a bit down the road in Dorset I am going to ring on Monday to see if they can quote for the job. Failing that I found out there is a German car specialist in town who said if I can get it on a diag (they run Snap On stuff but nothing P38 friendly) to find what it is saying they can go from there.
For the price of a nanocom/specialist you could do chains/sprockets/tensioners yourself. I’m saying this but not done my own yet . I sympathise as I’m same as you it’s a budget daily that you love not a fettled showcar with its own stocked workshop
