What did you do with your Range Rover today

For the price of a nanocom/specialist you could do chains/sprockets/tensioners yourself. I’m saying this but not done my own yet

. I sympathise as I’m same as you it’s a budget daily that you love not a fettled showcar with its own stocked workshop

Doing the chains is not out of the way as a DIY job. 'bout £200 for all the parts and a good weekends work. Well worth it for peace of mind..

Cleaned the gearbox rad as it was covered In mud and crap..
Dropped the oil from the box to service it soon and found a duff front wheel bearing...

Sounds due a chain and tensioner change before valves meet pistons.

Got it in with the Landy specialist on the 20th* as that is the earliest date they had. They're gonna throw it on diag to check the faults and then check the timing gear to see what needs replacing. They haven't worked on a P38 in some time so no one can remember.

*Pending they can find their P38 diag and it still works.

So today a total muppet failed my old girl at an MOT test because the ABS light was on.

I pointed out that the light stays on until the vehicle is driven above 5mph and then goes out. He shrugged and said that he couldn’t do that on his rolling road so it was a fail.

I’m honestly at a complete loss for words…

His equipment isn't fit to do the job but he took it on. Request a fee refund under the sale of goods act (not fit for purpose) and take it elsewhere?

just tell him to read his manual whilst you make an appeal to dvsa, and as a fixed 4x4 it shouldn't be on his roller

This comes up so many times.
2 choices.
Forget it and try somewhere else, who knows.
Or.
Make a flask of tea, park in front of their doors, with the correct page from the manual and ask to speak to the gaffer. You could always ask if he has the DVSA phone number while you add your sugar

Yeah, I wondered about that as he actually said ‘as it’s not a permanent 4x4’…. I was absolutely flabbergasted.

He couldn’t have caused any harm by doing so could he ? Or would he just get bogus readings ?

He also flagged a ball-joint boot (which is intact) and a bump-stop (a replacement for which I have in my hand, just couldn’t face trying to squeeze it on (and didn’t think was a critical MoT failure)
