Been to shop managed to replace the seals in compressor and even the change the feet. Gave it a try and just keep my finger over then so hopefully that’s a good compressor.

Everything connected and plumbed, tightened, checked, etc. Oil filled. Alternator back on and new belt fitted and tensioned. Spark plugs out and earthed, motor spun over 3 times for 10s a time to get the coolant circulated a bit and some airlocks cleared (meant he took another 2 litres of mix before starting him up). Plugs back in. Started him - needed a few throttle prods but not bad, bit rough to start as most rebuilds are in my experience, needed a few prods on the throttle. Ran for approx 2 minutes around 2000rpm, then stopped to check everything. No signs of fuel, coolant or oil leaks, although had drunk a noticeable amount of coolant and been topping up while running. Slight misfire and sounds a bit throaty and uneven on the exhaust tailpipe. Misfire is a distinct pop / spit about every 20s but can't work out where from. Suspension compressor noticeably noisy - must do that rebuild pronto once on the road.
Ran him again after the leak check, lots of smoke, difficult to trace source as it seemed to be pretty much everywhere. Finally traced to left hand exhaust pipe as source - then back further to a hot floorpan as the insulation above the cat appears to have come adrift and now to have cooked itself on the cat. Any suggestions as to replacement / cure / etc on that front? I'm guessing from the heat in the passenger footwell that the insulation is now (literally) toast and not fit for purpose.

Problem solved. ticking over pumping up tyres the clutch fell to the floor. After much depressing the HB light came on and I know there’s plenty in there. Cap off, loud hiss now brakes and clutch are sharp as ever. seems now clutch is engaging properly it’s lost its sluggishness and pulls plenty
Not sure if the telestart was an option but I would have thought the plug would be there.
The telestart uses the TV antenna amp to get the signal from the remote handset. At it does on mine
Telestart came as standard in all the 4.4 tdv8's I believe!

Telestart fitted on my 2008 3.6 tdv8 but not found a remote for it yet so wired in the Velleman remote I took off the 2004 for now.

Well, I've had a look at replacing the abs ring, not a chance of getting the caliper off without taking the hub off and trying it in a vice. It's stupid 12 point nuts and they are more or less rusted round
If it fails MOT then I'll ask the garage if they can do the ball joints for me, i simply don't have the wherewithall right now.
MOT expires 6th, does than mean the 6th is the last day, or the 5th?
Heat. They're the ones with blue Loctite on. Need the proper socket too.

Reassembled the dash and the beast lives again. Good job as the Jag MOT is now due.

cheers, i assumed it was a standard bi-hex/12 point bolt.. either way its well rusted and I think it will end up being cut off
Is blue the permanent stuff? thought that was the one you could undo with normal tools

It is standard 12 point. Blue is lower heat than the green stuff before it lets go. The standard stuff for fasteners that might vibrate loose.

i've decided to buy 'another' ABS sensor. if it doesnt cure the problem, then i'll use it soon enough on the other side when I destroy that one trying to remove it.

Option, if replacing the bolts, is to weld on a (larger) 6 point nut. Combines heat and grip for getting it undone.

Damm . . .Aspirator sensor seems to be overheating and reads 49degC in Nanocom. Consequently the HEVAC blasts out cold air on all but hottest manual setting. Tried blasting the aspirator with compressed air, but didn't help. Felt the back of the fan motor & it's definitely really hot.
