Project P38 has developed an electrical fault, message centre flashing on and off, ditto battery warning light, aircon compressor clutch dropping out. Fuse box or a bad connection? Time will tell, no time to look at the moment.

Replaced the top hose, got myself drenched in coolant.
Put the radiator cowl back on and flush the radiator while it was off

Got round to looking at the problem today, turned out to be the alternator. A bit annoying as it's only a year since I fitted a new regulator and gave it a bit of an overhaul. Looks like the new cheapo regulator is what has failed, I'll find our for sure when I take it apart.

Been away visiting friends for a week. Don’t think Princess wanted to come home - bottom rad hose seems to have distorted and rubbed against V.fan. My roadside repair kept me going by cutting the broken bit out and zipping bit of pipe in there. my bottle of ‘hot start’ saved me again new hose ESR3165/pch124720 ordered. £8
Only to have something from underneath fly off down the road ... another temporary roadside repair (zip ties) got me home

Used to be bolted on the bottom gonna try get a friend to weld a bolt on the end for me

I don’t think it’s that bad but don’t listen to me
Photo maybe?? other bits were worse and cleaned up okay with a grind and paint. It is all over the surface but not penetrated - back end around that area is worst. Original idea was to sort out underneath this summer before it turns into a defender
breakdowns every other week has kept me to busy but I have done few little bits. Il get some better pics for you both when I’m under there with the shock(s), see what you think
My mate told me his welder has blown doing his triumph herald (he also has 2Discos and used to have a Classic that he put a CAT engine in, that was then stolen never to be seen again)
He said not to weld struts as when it was originally welded it wasn’t full of oil/nitrogen. Either it will go off in my face like a bomb or the seals inside will fail
He also gave me something (free) to try. I don’t usually believe/mess about with this sorta thing and doubt a P38 will recognise it. Il try just to kill phil’s curiosity -
