The P38 must be one of the cheapest 4 x 4's to run and maintain. Nine years relatively trouble free motoring with my daily driver and the parts it has needed are soooo cheap. Not as reliable as My Hyundai Galloper or Pajero were though, but parts prices for them were astronomically expensive.

Have to agree.. to a point. Mine is a daily driver and when it's going it's a joy, however when it goes it always seems to go big style. But a 10mm spanner and an adjustable seems to cure 90% of issues.
A very good friend who worked on the P38's when they came out, said that for the day they were far too complicated and badly thought out, (considering what the rest of the country was driving), so everyone saw the trials and tribulations coming even back then. But this has been discussed no doubt a thousand times here.
I just might be a bit sore and grumpy from recent events with mine, but I have never had a car that demanded so much attention. I had a H reg Hilux surf for four years before this and can't remember putting a spanner to it and the damn thing still drove like a dream, when the body nearly rotted off it.
Right rant finished.. getting back in the cupboard now..

Yes I find the p38 a simple cheap fix maybe the l322 and d3 we have now will be a can of worms will have to see. Yes its a joy to own and drive but x5 cars is just to many to keep if I had the space the p38 would be staying, its going in a mates garage soon so undercover and a battery maintainer plugged in. He can use it as well so it will be driven.

Spent 2 hours in city traffic ferrying the long haired colonel around some medical appointments, 1 with the state of a lot of Russian roads its often just like going off road but 2 I just wish Russians would learn how to drive, follow road signs and drop the me first attitude and 3 realise that Lada into Range Rover doesn't go. But most of all just enjoyed driving a great vehicle in comfort in appalling conditions,

Finished and swapped the bonnet. Lots of pictures on my project thread but here’s one so you get the idea.

I havn't got a scooby doo what your talking about, looks like your well on top of it though so that's OK.
As I said to the doris yesterday, if it needs a spanner or hammer I can fix it, anything with electronic bits on it is serviced by fairies as far as I know. :D:D but thats because I'm an old farty.
