Spent the day extending the rear bumper on my classic, for some reason a PO had chopped the bumper off in line with the tailgate,or is it meant to be like that. Anyway not wanting to spend good money on bad plastic add on end caps thought I'd just extend it so it would protect the rear quarters, just about inside the bodyline. The extentions took each side out an extra 7inch.
As luck would have it I had a 1/4 sheet of 3mm kicking about so used that, biggest problem was bending the steel to the right shape without a bender, managed eventually with my 6inch vice and a couple of big adjustable spanners. Already did the front last week, quite pleased with results, just trust I can get a similar finish on the rear.

Cracked indicator lens, suspension and track rod end bushes, fuel seal of some sort split, rear subframe needs welding, headlight washer jet not working I think we're the failures.

Advisory rust around tow bar mount, nearside subframe bushes worn, parking brake at limit of being useful, front brake pads close to minimum level, another area corroded but not excessive on subframe , slight corrosion on front brake line even though these were allegedly replaced 6months ago and something else I think.

So a pretty epic fail lol! I knew it needed work as I picked it up fairly cheap but bought it unseen off the full fat forum and the seller was a little economical with the truth. Anyway garage giving me an estimate for the failure work then I'll decide whether to scrap it or shell out and fix. It's an 02 V8 so worth feck all anyway

Brian won't like it without photos. :D

So initial thoughts were not expensive to repair....but they've investigated the subframe mounting points further and ....
Sorry Sir we estimate £2500+VAT.

Erm no thanks - soon to be on eBay as spares! Land Rover?? Think I'll opt for another brand that has chassis that can last 16+ years and more than 134k miles! I'm amazed that a car costing £60k+ is scrap in under 20 years. Unless of course the previous owners parked it in the sea every night?
