Well that's interesting. I have just rung Hella. Very helpful and knowledgeable woman in their customer services department. The part number I have is genuine but she's never heard of Island-4x4, has never sent anything to their postcode and has no idea where they got the product. She also informs me that Hella have had only 2 items returned in the past 2 years due to defects or other reasons so would be very surprised if it was from them. So is it genuine? The item was manufactured in January 2014 so where has i been the past 2 years? Insurance job? Most odd.

Sam at Island reckons they all need jiggering to go in.

Well, I got one the same price from Allparts here and it was almost perfect. The hole for the locating stud was wrong so the bottom bolts wouldn't go in. In the end I just hacked the offending locating stud off - didn't want to damage the unit in case it had to go back. Also, I needed to bang the bottom up into the frame otherwise the bottom wouldn't fit. Finally the frame extended all the way to the top whereas the original had been cut short. Wondered about that until I came to the rubbers on the slam panel that didn't fit because the frame was in the way at the top. Screwed it down anyway so it'll cut grooves into the rubber. Feeling too ill to fight it. Anyway, all recharged and no leaks and all is good so working air-conditioning once more, with a minimum of fettling required.

Note I have no air deflectors at the side of my grill. The holes are there and even a tiny piece of plastic hanging on a plastic stud but the deflector must have gone missing before I got the vehicle.

A rare glimpse of the P38 in its preferred environment ...

Seals are ESR2450 R/H £11.78 and ESR2451 L/H £12.53 from Rimmers.

The bits of plastic either side of the radiator opening to stop air leaking. Think that is what you said was missing. ;)

Ah, yes. Thought they were called air-deflectors. Thanks. Doesn't seem to make any difference to it! Never had any overheat issues. Maybe an issue in hot countries when towing?

well wife went out in my rangt l322 and came back with the steering hard so it maybe the servotronic valve. or is it the BCU. found a valve £86 £99 for BCU. any idea with code it is for my 2002. because i find 2 codes on one is a transducer QFW500040 and QFW500050 any ideas.

Bloody broke down, thats what I did today..... got the breakdown to my house, had to take the day off work (lol) tried to start it up when I broke down, flattened the battery, when I got it home, I thought it might be diesel related, ( had just 1/4 of a tank in at the time) topped it up with a jerrycan, checked to see if I had any derv coming out after the filter, none (changed the filter) and was not getting any into the filter on turning the key, so checked before the filter, and nothing, lucky for me, I had done the pump trick in the back, so lifted the seats and pulled the carpet back to have a look at the tank pump.... and the bloody electrical connection was lose, so pushed it back into the socket, but a pull tie around it, turned the key and had derv coming out the pipe again, put it all back together, and she fired up, happy days

welll got a place to recon my gearbox and its just around the corner from me a mate told me to go down and i did the bloke there was really good after me explaining that i think its the valve body bloked with swarf and theres metal in the sump pan. i then asked if he could recon the gear box and put a new valvve body in as well. he knew i wasnt just a joe bloggs who knew nothing about gears and cars. so he talked to me not down at me. and gave me the answers. no messing around straight to the point. just as i like it. he will be doing it on the 11th may ill have it back fri after dinner so im happy. price is great top class place as well they do all the gear stuff around me and have been doing for years i didnt fancy going there at first because the place looks dear. but to my shock there ok. ill put price on when its done. one more thing. im thinking of topping the charge up. charging the battery tomorrow. is it the same as any car just take the battery lead off before i start charging it. it dosent do anything other than stop the clock does it.

Yesterday I washed hoovered and cleaned the insides all in prep for today I taxed her and took her out for a drive first time since September. The smile on my face the whole time was embarrassing but I don't care.
I forgot how vague the steering and cornering is with the wheel off centre so will get tracking done then see how she goes. How much is down to it being a big 4x4 with 20" wheels after driving the golf.

Is there not a fuse to put the box in neutral like the P38? Failing that take the props off. If engine is running then safer.
