Yes. When they were fitted, they were way over at 50+psi.. I've got them down to what they should be.. seem to be wearing ok

New oil and filter, new fuel, air and pollen filters too.
What did you expect? Those tyres are rated C for wet grip. The difference in stopping distance between A & C is 7 metres when braking from 50mph. I only use my P38 on tarmac & never fit anything but tyres rated A for wet grip.

to put it into context, on a normal rainy day, if a wheel hits a puddle ( I dont mean deep, just normal surface water i wouldnt even blink at on my motorbike) you'll feel the car tug to the side

Isn't that just drag from the water rather than aquaplaning? I've had that on many cars.

potentially sometimes yes.. but when you're moving about the road and moving the wheel does next to nothing.. in my book thats aquaplaning

I wonder if traction/stability control systems are getting in the way and making things worse, not better?

Only if your braking through the water. Checking your brakes is a good idea or maybe don't go out in the rain
. Being honest there are a few models of land-rover that should not go out in the rain. I think the wider the tyre the more the impact onto the waters surface giving a bigger reaction.
