What did you do with your Range Rover today

Don’t know about sticky, but when I had a Volvo V70 2.0d (Ford engine) exhaust always had some black residue, even with dpf (145,000 miles) and was always wet, not sticky as such but sort of soot and condensation, always run fine though, take it for a blast, get everything hot see how it goes after.

Just checked the exhaust hole, covered in sticky black gunk.. isn't it supposed to be fairly clean?
Concerned it won't pass MOT
Do your back box emissions stink when you're idle?

Serious question 🤣

I cant find many examples where people have deleted egr and dpf on 4.4, be surprised if its been carried out on yours. Have you got active egr valves? I was under the impression you can't have 1 without the other on the 4.4 so if egr system is still in place stands a chance the dpf aint been fiddled either..?

Personally mate, and I mean this in the kindest most supportive way...i think you're a bit para about this range, just drive and enjoy your motor. Fix it if it breaks, don't go hunting for issues that probably aren't there. If its running nicely and seems good, it probably is good 👍🏻

I'm an ex p38 owner do of course I'm paranoid 🤣🤣

I'm also paranoid because the dealer i bought from was a complete dick who kept it for far too long before it was 'ready' for to collect.. what was he doing with it?

Yes it stinks when it's idling, can't be anywhere near the back end if the engine is running

Haven't a clue about the egr, but i know you can't blank the egr if the dpf is in place or it does bad things to it.

Check commanded and actual values on live data for EGRs?

Fact it stinks is intriguing. They apparently do with no dpf. Wonder if its been hollowed out as dpf section is still in place..? My 3.6 is a bit whiffy and intermittent very lumpy idle on hot starts, smells very EGRish (still fitted and active)

Quick aside, one of my EGRs is quite shiny, t'other aint so 1 of em prob new but have spurious egr commanded and actual values during lumpy idle on that bank with old unit. Prob just starting to play silly buggers, no codes yet...

Anyway
Did it have any dpf warnings when you bought it and you were waiting for him to fix or was it all good and he was just 'preparing' for sale?

Agree with you, would've thought unplugging the sensor would have thrown a light on. Theres a good indy by me, mallyville cars in willenhall. Ask for Jamie and run it by him, be worth a blast up the m6 if he needs to have a look.

Not sure about MOT, I've had pre 2009 cars pass with no egr in the past but obviously different bucket of crabs with the 4.4

Edit to add
So can't delete egr without dpf as well, can it be done other way round? I'll have a look on fullfatrr

Edit 2
Intake leaks and engine temp issues (too cold or sensors) apparently cause non regen issues. Not necessarily coolant temp either, maybe oil temp

Link to thread with outcome. Not sure how relevant to you but chao had no error codes as well

You'll soon know if its got the dpf missing it'll smell sour if left idling and grey smoke on start up,
All my diesel bmws was like that and i know the cats and dpfs was empty and egrs disabled and warnings turned off
My td6 had an empty cat and egr blanked and that got stinky,
Thats got to be one of the worst things for Mordern diesel cats dpfs egrs swirl flaps ad blue ect what a way to ruin diesel 'reliability'

You dont always have to remove stuff or physically blank them too it can be turned off in the ecu tune

On a serious note whats actually wrong with it @kermit_rr

I thought all diesels stink, so I'm not sure if it's normal or not
I can check egr values tomorrow
It did have the warning light on and he said he would take it to land rover to get it cleaned
Which is fine but the way he treated me, i simply don't believe anything he said, hence digging

What's wrong? Nothing visible, but coming up for mot and warranty expires at the same time.
Since I've had it, I've periodically checked live values and the numbers never change, 12g soot and 0% volume remaining.. i checked the exhaust pressure earlier and that just have an error like E079 or summat

Why not go past an mot garage and see if it will pass and emissions test that would soon see if you need to get on his case before warranty runs out?
