Mothers rrs was the same. Its actually horrible keeping any rust at bay as i live litterlly a mile from the North sea you can come out in the morning and see grime/sea salt on your windscreen.I've à client with a 1999 Toyota corolla with less rust on it than that bar!
decided to start on my service, one air filter dirtier than my hover bag, one breather with enough oil in it to fill a tanker best order some more parts as was only going to do oil and oil filter
Timing cover off, chain and gears look new!
Took a big end cap off, shells look almost new!!
Not taken the others off yet, but can one be bad while the others look new? Hmmm
What's knocking!?
Will have to take the others off to be sure
They'll come off tomorrow, though at the moment the heads look new, not even a hint of old oil stain.. we'll see!!Check the rockers and shafts, a common problem with the Rv8 is the rocker arms are fitted with a cup at the pushrod end and a steel shim or pad at the valve end. These pads are curved to allow the valve to slip/slide across the top of them the standard build is not the best of rocker designs the pads can wear a groove from the top of the valve and can often fracture or break away resulting in very noisy valve gear and subsequent follower.
No varnish is a rarity on the RV8.They'll come off tomorrow, though at the moment the heads look new, not even a hint of old oil stain.. we'll see!!
More than likely had a HG job plus a skim, they're usually cleaned prior to skimming, that would explain the clean heads but varnished rocker gear. They must be new heads..View attachment 235006
Starting on the drivers side as that's where i think the noise was coming from... Went to take the rocker shaft off.. loosening in order, got to bolt number one and it was loose!!! Not finger tight but had certainly not been torqued down!!!Check the rockers and shafts, a common problem with the Rv8 is the rocker arms are fitted with a cup at the pushrod end and a steel shim or pad at the valve end. Could this be the source of the knocking!?
Certainly something that wasn't as it should be.. other than that the rockers and the shaft look ok, no play to speak of or visible wearit's possible..
Couldn't rock any of the rockers by hand either, so the lifters are workingCertainly something that wasn't as it should be.. other than that the rockers and the shaft look ok, no play to speak of or visible wear
Got the wife's P38 recovered to our new gaff. It is still without MoT. So couldn't drive it. Then spent about an hour shooting the **** with the guy we hired for the job. He is a Landy fan himself (TD5 Disco). So that was fun.

But it seems my P38 refuses to retain the wheel centre caps. Got a new set not long ago and already had one abandon ship at 70. Anyone else have this issue, or just me?
