what can I get a constant 12v feed out of in the boot?

Afternoon chaps.

So I've just invested in a powered cool box/chiller to keep me sandwiches crisp on long journeys. It's bloody brilliant.

My idea though is to install an extra cigarette lighter socket somewhere in the boot for when Ive got a car full of passengers and no room on the back seats for the cooler, but I don't know what I can splice the wiring into? as far as I can see the only cables running in the boot are for the lights which I don't think will be a suitable supply.

Any ideas? Only one I can think of at the moment is to run some wires from the rear passenger cigarette socket but that runs the risk of looking messy, plus I'm already powering my CB from that, don't wanna risk putting too much strain on it.
 
make sure its a switched feed as them cool boxes will soon pull battery down if you leave car with it still on. on my disco I ran feed from fuse box under carpet and sill trim to cig socket in back
 
Oh yeah good point about switched supply. Didn't think of that.

Could run some wires from the fuse box but was hoping for something a bit closer, im a bit OCD about keeping the insides as tidy as possible! :D

could always run them under car and in through boot space , ie towing cable grommet if you got one (don't know on freelanders)
 
sv did one, or you could run a lead from the power socket in the back seats I got one from aldi it also runs on 240 v fantastic and a bit bigger than any previous ones we have had which were just 12 v but there is already one there that powers the tow bar electrics for the fridge ect: in a caravan

There's one lying in the cubby box (underneath the handbrake) as some models have a 12v out.
 
Yeah I've made that mistake before... first car was a ****ty citron AX. Being a silly boy I did what we all do and went a bit nuts on it. I put a dixie horn on it, now the badly translated cheap Chinese instructions said to use 1.5mm cable connected straight to the battery... personally I thought that was a bit thin but hey that's what the instructions said so that's what I did!

I'm sure you can imagine the outcome! :(
 
As Teddywood says I have one of these sockets fitted in exactly the position shown in the instructions - right up in the corner near the seat release catch.

The trim comes off as in pic/step Nr 28 and you will find a junction box hidden in there behind the trim and insulation felt stuff.

I have a high power drawing fridge as well as a cool-box so I needed heavier cable and a 20amp fuse. I used it for carrying medical supplies.

The picnic cool-box I often leave running for an hour or so with the ignition switch at position 1 as I worked out it would take a good 8 hours before I had problems re-starting.

The big fridge I only plug in once the engine is running.
 
I think I will have a go at this. It would be very handy having another power point in the back.
I can also use my 12v cooler box.
