Hi I'm new to the landy scene I've just sold my freelander and now looking at getting a disco and what to do some green laning with a bit of pay n play what do I need to buy to adjust the disco for doing this is lift kit snorkel etc thanks in advance for any help
 
Snorkel you'll need extended breathers too. Buy them from a pneumatics shop, my set cost me £12 for the same thing Paddocks sells for £70.
Decent tyres, BFG ATs should be fine.

Start with that and buy parts as you feel you require them. No need to spend a fortune on blingy bits that won't actually help.
 
The breathers screw into the top of the axle for axle ones, they all look like

That one is for the Transfer box though..

I haven't extended any but I assume its just a case of a new pipe and bringing it considerably higher.

Be careful as you would also need wading plugs etc if you were going to do it properly.

If I were you I would start off with as it is now and get up to speed and then if you feel the need to challenge yourself more as your skills increase you can adapt the vehicle.

I have had a couple of Disco 1's and each have had a fair few mods. I guess thinking about a stock disco the first things i'd change are:
Front heavy duty front bumper, ideally winch compatible ready for the future!
Side sill protectors (rock sliders) - my first D1 had sill steps which kept getting me stuck/got bent/damaged underside of doors. The amount of scrapes my rock sliders have taken makes me question what would happen if I didn't have them!
2" lift - you don't need extended brake lines etc to do this and it's not a complex job. Terrafirma do a good one that is cheap.
Decent tyres - a cheap popular choice is Insa Turbo Muds as a set can be had for around £400. I use military Michelin 750 r16s which are tall and have a great mud pattern.
Axle/extended breathers. Check out 'wading kit' online as they raise air breathers for crucial parts and preventatively stop you drawing in water into various oils.
A snorkel is a fun option but if you aren't doing any wading i'd actually prioritise some of the other things on this list first.
 
I'm thinking of getting a stock disco and doing the mods my self then hopefully I'll find one that's not been knocked around so much I'm not looking for a show winner but not your usual rot box either if you no what I mean
 
Nobody has mentiond driver ability you can have all the mods you want but knowing a bit about driving off road goes a long way also
 
To be honest the only form of off road driving I've ever done was on a scrambler years ago so really I have no real experience but hopefully I'll be able to pick up a few hints and tips as I go as I'm gonna start off with going to a few meets doing a bit of green laning then progress to the pay and plays I think or would you surgest another route to go ??
 
personally i would go with a few mates and don't be frightened to ask if you need to and go lightly with the right foot when needed if you've ever been to a trial you will see power dose not always mean best and most of all enjoy it
