took it to work today .;.. warmed up nicely within the normal time range.

I do notice that the temp gauge behaviors more like my 19j the propper coolant mix has made the temp gauge more responsive.

Ie under load at max boost up a prolonged hill in 4th the temp gauge goes from its normal 1/4-1/3rd to 1/2 and goes back down again when i go down the other side.

The heater gets warmer and the temperature gauge is affected by the heater.

previously the temperature gauge went to 1/4 and stayed there.

Also i found the remains of the bottle i made my previous mix up...... word up - check you have concentrate and not ready mix.... seems i would have had 13.5:76.5 antifreeze:water.....

i was stress testing it to be fair ...... its a long hill. Even my van gets warm up it ....the old set up never moved - should i also mention i dont have a fan on there.......
Would have thought the thermostat would keep it fairly steady, mine wouldnt move even towing a trailer up a long hill. AFAIK, the one in Marts 200Tdi is similar. Might be worth trying another stat.

Double/triple/quad strength anti freeze going in tonight.

No, just get the mix right, too much antifreeze reduces waters specific heat capacity and will impact it's ability to remove heat.

Mix is almost always 50/50 for maximum strength.

Was the water actually frozen solid? Was it not just slushy? The pump, if frozen solid, would have screeched when the engine started as the belt tried to turn the pump, or the impeller snapped off.

I think you might be lucky.
