Wet Boot with pics

Hi chaps,
Well I knew it would happen eventually, found condensation and damp tools in my boot cubby box yesterday....another Freebie Frog Pond!

Thought I would take the time to post some pics of my discovery,
The boot seal looks good and after a good dosing with a hose pipe all over the back I could see no water getting inside, it rained all night - and still no water inside! Strange!
I did notice if I sprayed the hose pipe under the wheel arch that some water got in theough the wheel arch vent! So, going through deep water or fast through big puddles shoves water into your rear end...oooer!

The carpet was quite damp and soggy, and when i lifted the rear left corner you could see water on the skin of the floor.
I'll leave the carpet out to dry for a while, but im puzzled where the damn water is coming from! My roof gulley fixings are sound, even ran water into it directly for 5 mins and still no leak.

p.s whats the plug for in the bottom of the cubby hole??

Water can travel and the thick foam carpet can soak up water and hold it for a long time. Can be misleading. If it were mine then I'd remove the carpet and squeeze it to help release the water from the foam. Don't fit it back until your sure water isn't getting in.

Hi , joe get a couple of damp traps from your local hardware shop , they absorb quite a bit of water and will help to dryout your boot area

Would the connector in the cubby hole be for the optional 12v power connector in the boot?

You still have a shine silver load securing ring, mine has gone rusty!!!

What that spring like, thing attached to the boot floor, first pic, inlin with the securing ring and the yello seat release?? I have a second securing ring there!

No - it's not for the 12v power socket - I have that, and the loom for it comes from behind the LH rear trim, somewhere around the yellow gadget thing.

What's the yellow thing for?

Does the trailer socket wiring come from there too?

Trailer socket is on drivers side , I had damp carpet underlay & car would steam up all the time and could not find the leak .
Then I had to fix my rear handle that had broke & found the rear door membrane had come away at one corner , Stuck it back with silcon and has been damp free all winter

The connector will be for a sub woofer, connectors for the amp will be under passenger seat.
The spring like thing is a bracket for a LR dog guard, it uses the load securing ring bolt, and the ring should have been refitted.

I have a caravan socket on my vehicle, was there when i brought it..i pressuming its maybe for a switched live/charging circuit for a caravan?

Trailer socket wiring and fuses are on the drivers side....

Carpet was out drying in the un today, I think the water is coming in from bottom door rubber...might pack out the inside of the rubber strip whereit pushes onto the door frame lip to help it give a tighter seal to the door.


on th lining front, may be a good start as i had the lining out to repair/install my cb cable to the spare wheel! (Afew rolls of gaffa should seal where the membrane is split I feel :O)

p.s I hear that landrover introduced a new rear door seal to stop the leaking issues....what year was this? Also, ive seen on other forums that the real seal should hve a cut in the bottom each side to allow drainage...WTF? Anyone got a 2005/2006 model and fancy tking a pic of the rear door seal pretty please with cherris on top?!!

I have a 2005 model so will try and remember to take a pic tomorrow although mine was leaking quite badly a couple of years back and I traced it to the vertical part of the seal at the hinge side, all I did was to remove the seal, re-shape the metal flange so it was closer to the door then re-fit the seal and its been perfect ever since.

I had the new modified seal fitted when I bought the car (cost the dealer £120 for the seal) the tool box still gets damp (condensation ?) on the lid but the carpets and floor are completely dry.

I found this problem in the wifes FL today. Worst of the water seems to be coming from the drivers side based on how wet the carpet underlay was, does this indicate a dodgy door seal then?

I've got an 06 model and am suffering from the same problem. I have drilled a hole in the bottom of the cuddy hole for now but must get around to finding out where the water is coming in from.

Somebody on here a few weeks ago suggested stuffing shredded plastic bags up inside the rubber seal to bulk it out to make a better seal but I can't find the thread now. He also had pictures showing how he did it.

There is no cut each side on the bottom of mine, if I get chance tomorrow I'll take a picture and post back.

make a cut to the door seal , so that there is a 1/8 inch gap between the ends,
on mine the water was running down the seal and into the boot area, the gap allows the water to drain outside ,

easy fix no cost
