Looking for a garage with experience of tuning 200tdi s if anyone knows one? I have put in a boost pin but don't feel I am getting the best I could so wanted someone who knows the engine to take a look. I am in West Yorkshire. Any recommendations?

A boost pin works best when everything else on the pump is standard. If the pump has been previously tuned you could feasible get reduced power output. Similarly if you take it somewhere to tune it "properly" you are possibly best with the original pin fitted.

You don't want a 200tdi "expert" you want a Bosch diesel service agent - send them the pump and have them set the pump to as spec - then fit your boost pin. Alternatively, send the pump in and ask them to set it up a little above spec with your new pin fitted. This bloody tinkering with injection pumps by people who don't know what they are doing is a nightmare as you then don't know where the pump then sits in relation to original spec, then it does silly things and people get upset! The first thing I do with a potentially tinkered with pump is have it set to factory spec after I renew all the seals and give it a clean out and rebuild, they don't take much for this service as I have already done the rebuild and they are just calibrating it on the Bosch setup/test rig.

Anyone who claims to be an injection pump 'expert', in the context of tuning is talking rubbish unless they are removing it from the vehicle and putting it into the test rig, they may know what to tweak to get more out of it but without metering the diesel delivered and the dwell etc. on a test rig they cannot know what it is delivering and cannot know for sure that it may not be detrimental to the running of the engine long term.

I bet you feel better now you've got that off your chest.;)

I am quite able to use google and have experience of two of those three garages. The third, Copley , deals with brand new Land Rovers so not really have a lot of experience of tuning 200tdi s. But thanks for your input.
My understanding is that as well as the pump mods there are things that can be done to read the 1 bar limit after the pipework to effectively get more boost and thats something I have no experience of. Similarly fitting a bigger intercooler and so on.

Fitting a bigger inter cooler and increasing the boost are what allows you to burn the additional fuel added by tweaking the pump. Otherwise you just get more black smoke and not more power.
Fitting a bigger inter cooler is just that and requires no knowledge of tuning just basic spannering skills. Adjusting the turbo is also very straight forward and involved altering the length of the actuator rod. However to do this safely you need a boost gauge installed and depending on where in the pipe work you put the sensor depends on what reading you will get. The best position being plumbed into the inlet manifold. Both of these things are fairly non technical and low skill jobs when compared to tuning the fuel pump and could easily be undertaken by a competent home mechanic. It is only the fuel pump alterations which require in depth knowledge to get right.

It's a long time since I lived down there, and I know that Copley is still going, as I used to get some bits for my Series from them, similarly with Simmy and the Hudds LR Centre, as they all knew what they were doing ...
But there again, it's over 30 years since I left Hebden Bridge :cool:

They are all still going and there's another landy garage been built right next door to Copley too though again its all new motors. The LR centre is almost exclusively series vehicles, nice but then they should be at over 20k each!
