Any of the ones LR fitted either a 2.25 as would have been used at the time of manufacture or a slightly later 2.5. Or if you want more power and economy a 200tdi. All of them readily available, parts are cheap, easy to work on and pretty straight forward to fit.
For ease of fitting, ample oomph, reliability and ease of maintenance I'd go for a 2.5 n/a diesel. A 200tdi from a disco will take a bit more messing about to make it fit and might give a shade too much power for your tired old drivetrain. I've just stuck a 19j 2.5 td in my 109 which has made a hell of a difference but it's not easy to find a known good one. A 109 isn't particularly heavy in LR terms though still the best part of 2 tons I spose.
or the battery tray, or the off side engine mount, or the viscous fan, or the oil cooler pipes, not to mention if your gonna fit the standard rad......
and lots of broken drivetrain bits.Lots of power and a lovely MPG

no idea, but the ratings seem good. an i think they have a 2 year warrenty.
