welded well ?

hi,might b viewing an 1972 s111 on saturday,bloke on phone said that alot of chassi welding has taken place,said a days worth.i have zero welding experience,is thr any tips u can share on how to spot the difference between a good quality weld job and one done by his mate who hasnt welded since metal shop at school.Any advice appreciated.

just have a look around at various manufactured steel/items.
you can generally tell the good from the bad welding.
as in life, if it looks good then it usually is.
 
Take a screwdriver with you because he might have plastered underseal on it....

Ask him if you can have a prod/scrap bang...

If he says no,walk away....
 
dunt think i'd want some **** beatin seven shades outta me motor if i was trying to sell it.

I did say a screwdriver not a wrecking ball ,if the chassis is good you have nothing to worry about....Prodding the bodywork if a different kettle of fish...

The welding should look like a earthworm has been pressed neatly along the edges ....:)

even so i still wouldn't want some body scrapin me well applied underseal off.. after having spent hours welding the chassis and rust-proofing it
 
Fair point , maybe just to be safe go along the chassis tapping it with the end of the screwdriver listening for different sound tones...

If it thuds then you have come to the chicken wire/newspaper glassfibre bit...:D
