Weirdest Problem Ever Can Anyone Help?

No this isn’t an April Fool joke I have the weirdest issue ever with my 2006 Range Rover Sport 2.7 HSE.
When the lights are off the gearbox works perfectly changing up as it should but as soon as lights are turned on the gearbox holds itself in gear until 4500rpm!
I have tried putting extra charge in the battery & an ECU reset none of which have made any difference.
I should also say that when lights are turned on all my brake lights also illuminate & stay on but when turned off only the high level brake light works (unlikely to be connected I know)
It’s gojng into local Indy tomorrow but they don’t sound too hopeful as they have never heard of anything like this as haven’t local Land Rover Specialist.
Any ideas or pointers appreciated
 
Wtf? Boot full of water?
Alternator test for output?
Corrosion on earth bolts/connections/straps?:eek:


Failing the tests, drive it the day only:p;)

Sounds like a faulty Brake light switch , even a rear blown bulb can make the system throw a tantrum

First port of call due to the complexity of these vehicles is a diagnostic printout , good call getting it booked in tomorrow with the dealers
 
Along the left side of the car, under the door kick plates is a plastic channel in which the wiring harness runs to the back of the car......the channel fills with water and rots the wiring loom joins I'm not saying this is deffenetly your cause but its worth a look before you get too involved spending hard earned

Ur not wrong there in how water can throw a spanner in the works

That loom that sits by the passenger door is normally when the alarm remote doesn’t respond anymore, is 3 x green wires that need remaking

Thought with members who own RRS and D3 we should be able to talk the OP through things that won’t cost him anything , but looks as though he’s already booked it in for the dealers

At least we should know more tommorow , ref fault codes , lol

Not booked into dealer just my local garage who sound stumped by it trying to avoid main stealer prices.
Any other ideas to share with them greatly appreciated

I fear you're wasteing your time and more importantly your money taking it to a local garage......you need a RR specialist ( though avoid main dealers)

I,ve come across all manner of problems caused by water in that channel , its always the first place I look now

Turns out being the massive bell end that I am I got the brake light & fog light bulbs mixed up on one side which for some bizarre reason was causing the gearbox issues as well as the brake light issues.

Bulbs swapped both problems solved thanks again I could understand the brake light issue due to bulbs but I’d have never guessed it could cause gearbox issue
 
For some reason it backfeeds the transmission or something - can’t remember the detail now!

But it’s a common error that crops up

Glad it’s fixed and cheaply
