Right, finished my 200tdi re-engine and driving it around again, today came back to a flat tyre so put the spare on, it's not the same kind of tyre as the other 3 and is on the front right. I now get a whine noise when i lift off the accelerator. I don't if i'm in neutral... tbh, i didn't notice if it was there before putting the spare on.

Is it possible the whine is somehow being caused by the spare? Or from something i didn't do correctly from the 200tdi engine swap? or a new issue?

(Anyone with some tyres they want to sell feel free to let me know, need some new ones now)

Tyres can cause a whine. I found this on my Astra, it had too large tyres on the front and I could hardly hear the wireless. No noise since correct ones fitted.

I assume the tryes are the same size? Is the whine from the tyres or diff?

Sounds more like it is from the dif / transmission - but, it's not exactly easy to pin point the source of the noise whilst travelling along with all the other noises going off.

I think the tyre might be slightly bigger - its def. not the same. (it is a spare... i have no other option right now)

Youv'e not accidently engaged 4wd when putting the transmission tunnel back in have you?
no insult intended :)

none taken... it is normally the obvious things we miss!

I dropped it into low and back into high to check for that one... didn't seem to make a huge difference, but, i must admit it does vaguely fit... maybe i should actually enable 4wd in high then check it goes in properly and comes out again

It'll very likely be the spare due to it being a slightly different size.

Had to put the spare on mine the other day due to slow puncture and it sounded like the transmission was on it's way out. Put some air in the old tyre and stuck it back on. Hey presto noise gone ;)

so if you don't like tyre whine i'd suggest you definitely don't fit deestones or general sag's

my sag's howl like a banshee at anything over walking pace :D

Most of the time you can't here the tyres over the noise of the engine and transmission!

All sorted now, put more air in the spare and checked I wasn't in 4wd... I kinda suspect that might have been my failing
