weird noise from engine

There is a strange Whirring noise coming from the right hand side of the engine when I turn the ignition off. I lifted the bonnet and it seems to be coming from where the egr valve is. It doesn't make a noise when the engine is running so any clues ? It's a 06 TD4.

Are you sure it's coming from the EGR valve area? It's normal for the HPFR pressure regulator to buzz. It's not always audible, but some are more noisy than others.

Quite possible. Where can I locate roughly the HPFR regulator ?....................ta

Fuel burning heater? Mine makes a wirring noise when shutting down. Check under the passenger side bumper near the wheel, if there is a small exhaust you have a FBH. Didn't think they were fitted to 06 cars though.

This used to be known as the Donald duck noise. It was discussed in length years ago with videos posted. Don't know if they'll still be on.
Mine does it quite regularly, and I've heard others do it. Nothing to worry about.

It's quite normal as Mike said. My TD4 is almost silent.
However the wife's new Kuga is very noticeable, even with the bonnet closed.
