Those of you that have helped me so far will probably laugh that I've started another thread because of issues with my head gasket change.

Got everything back together and it started on the button, no white smoke, sounding good... revved it up and at about 3000 revs the engine makes a fairly horrible squealing sound. I'm not sure if this is new as I rarely go into the 3k range when driving and you can only really hear it with the bonnet up standing at the front. Don't think its a belt as it sounds like its coming from back of the engine.

Maybe one of the pumps? Gear box?

The intake pipe is off the turbo as I'm refurbing the air filter box. Thought maybe the turbo winding up but sounds ****ing horrible

but the intake back on and retry

That funny noise from a 200 TDi is possibly the sound of it running! :D:D
However, to be serious, is the noise there on a hot or cold engine?
If cold, it could be the water squirting through the not-fully-opened stat, and if hot it could be exactly the same!

Ha yeh, I'm trying to be able to deferentiate between the 'normal' sounds of the old girl and the worrying ones.

Only noticed it on a cold engine. Will give it a run tomorrow and report back

Sounds like a bearing squeal to me

Sounds OKish to me, turbo whistle?

Nver easy on an audio recording but nothing sounds serious. Do you have any gasket leaks?

Where does the noise come from?

At first I thought it was from behind left side of the engine but now I think it is coming from near turbo. Hard to tell to be honest. Currently returning the air filter box so will test again once that's back on

Sounds like a bag of nuts like mine, so it must be ok. I know this does not help, but I was paranoid about mine but after the 30k miles I've added to the old boy since I got him he is still going along just fine with the whistles and grumbles it makes and 30+mpg.
