Thanks mintcherrie.

I've re-read the second post but as I say, it can't be the float as I can move the lever up n down and the gauge isn't following properly

jay, what defender do you have. I had a similar issue when i installed my TD5 tank into my 300tdi. Turns out the guage needs to be earthed. check the earth wire which should be a ring terminal on the gauge mount. This loops to the water temp gauge and to an earth.

worth a look as mine was reading full until i earthed it.

Thanks- it's a defender/seriesIII hybrid with a Volvo TD6 engine.

I think I'd better check behind the gauges.

Cheers

:hijacked::focus:

I presume that the guage goes back to E when you turn the engine off.

Was it working before with this setup, or is the landy a new rebuild???? and you just finished it?

Yes, you get the full travel of the gauge when a) ignition is off or b) cables are disconnected at the sender end.

And it's been working fine for 3 years since the build.
