weird fuel gauge problem

Sender seems fine on the bench with an ohmmeter- but dashboard gauge moves between 3/4 full and full- nothing less. Anybody got a gem of wisdom for me?

I had the same, got a new one, 5 min job to change over and worked fine ever since! I think the ball loses its flotation over time or something.

have you checked the sender unit?

Yes, had the sender out and moved the float up and down- as I say the dash gauge goes up and down but not below 3/4
