Series 3 Weber Carb Conversion

Sorry if this has been asked many times before, but I don't seem to be able to search forums yet. Weber carb conversion - which one have people found best, and should I be looking for an adapter plate? Thanks. Chris
 
Chris, it depends on what carb you are replacing.
If it's a Zenith 36IV (standard Series 3 carb) then the Weber 34ICH will fit onto the same adapter. If it's a Solex (Series 2) then I think you do need a different adapter.
I have run a Weber 34ICH on my Series 3 for around 18 months now and I find it better than the Zenith copy that I had before. Things to be aware of are: Weber needs a different choke cable and a good inline fuel filter. I've heard that the Weber isn't a good carb for serious offroading (I think it can flood at extreme angles) but I've had no problem with road use and mild offroading.
 
Brilliant, thanks. It is the Zenith 36 IV, and still has an ally tag with number on it. Yeah, I won't be doing anything more extremem than lanes and muddy fields. "Webcon" (unfortunate name for a website, unless it's a double-bluff) have the kit for £155, which seems pretty cheap. My existing choke placement already seems a little weird as it is way low on the bulkhead, but take your point about needing a different cable. A good inline filter is a good idea. I have attached a pic of an installation that I think is one of those inline fuel treatment things, if anyone recognises it?

I don't recognise that at all, has it any writing on it? It might be one of those scams advertised around the time leaded petrol stopped being sold. The inline 'filter' contained lead balls which was 'supposed' to add lead to unleaded petrol to prevent valves burning out.
