Hi folks,

New here on your forum. I finally made my dream come true with a TD5 100 and now living in Finland, well, the thing is an ice box as expected. And wife wants to have at least a bit of comfort as the reward for letting me have the 110. Part of the winter ready job I am going to install a Webasto, but now here is the question:

Thermo Top Evo or Thermo Top C?

I can't seem to find a decent comparison of the two, apart from whats on the specs for each heater. People see to have had good results with the TTC, but how does the TTE compare? Does anyone have one?

Also did anyone install this in combo with a foot heater in the back? Is it worth it?

Insulation job is coming and fixing up to the heater matrix and ducts to try an not heat the countryside instead of the car!

Thank you all for your advice.

Cheers,
Simon

IIRC the Evo is around 4kw output.
We had an Evo fitted on board a 40' yacht, and it was very warm in the cold of the Arctic, so I woould imagine that it would produce enough for a 110, even in your winters, with plenty of capacity to spare.
However, i seem to remember that the diesel antifreeze made some difference to the performance, but I can't remember what!

Thanks for the info. That must have been quite the trip!

I will forgo the extra heater unit then, can always fit it later if needed.

Cheers

Even though it was summer, it was still way down below freezing at it's warmest!
Once again, IIRC there is a pretty good thermostatic control on them, as 4kw is enough for the British winters and it didn't have to kick out full heat all the time.

Yeah it is pretty cold up here :)

Good to know that even not at full power it will give plenty heat. It does go to a good -30 degrees here by December so having enough power for that is essential.

Whichever one has the most power 4kw isnt really enough 5kw is spot on
I had a 4kw eberspacher version and it did the job but had to run for 45 minutes to do the job, whereas the webasto 5kw did the same thing in 30 minutes

Yeah we have pretty good winter diesel here in Finland, but just got the kicker this morning of the engine not starting. All was well yesterday but we had a lot of slush and at night it dropped to -3 or less but had super high humidity int he air. So this morning apart from the damn doors almost locking me out, engine cranked and all but didn't want to kick in. I added extra anti freeze this time and gonna let it sit. Daytime should hit around 0 to +1 so I try again in the evening.

I worry that maybe glow plugs are not working correctly. Battery is new but might be lower charge as I was driving the landi just short distances the past few days. (8km per day). Might that be an issue?

I did read engine oil might be an issue too with the cold, the car was running just fine though yesterday even though it was cold and snowing and sludge. Oil was changed before I became the proud owner, but maybe not enough low temperature rating oil?

I doubt it is the loom or anything else as there seem to be no other issues and besides the high humidity nothing changed to before the issues happened this morning.

I guess the webasto will also alleviate some of the cold start issues?

Quick follow up to this.

I have now installed my Thermo Top Evo 5 with a regular remote plus an additional heater in the back under the seats. The Evo does it's job excellently so far and the engine is very happy in the Finnish cold and heats up reasonably quick. The cabin heating is not mind-blowing from the Evo but defogs and de-ices enough to now have to scrub. Will have to fix some insulation issues still and check on all the piping from the heater matrix to the cabin. I assume it is still like a Swiss cheese. The auxiliary heating is great, drive and throw this baby on and I got a sauna despite the **** insulation. All in all, not cheap but money worth spent with -30 Celsius around the corner.

Thanks to all the advice!
